General discussion thread for HAMs and SDRs. I'll start off the topic by asking for recommendations for a good wideband SDR. My preliminary research points me to the RX-888, but I have no idea if that is a good one to look at.

Yeah I am using a laptop and SDR console for control and plan to keep it that way for the time being. The Airspy seems to have a huge bandwidth if you don''t mind some signal degradation, so I might just go with that one until I find a reason to upgrade. SDR console lets me run multiple tuners so I can keep using the RTL as well, and just use it where it makes the most sense given its capabilities. Its not too much of a pain to run more wires through the attic. . .
 
I bought a CaribouLite a while ago and haven't messed with it a whole lot since, one of those backburner winter projects. It's probably the most powerful SDR options, but you also need a Raspberry Pi and some tinkering to get it going.
