The Brits didn't fight for their rights - pro gun Brits were told to "wait" and "play fair" and "not rock the boat" and "not look like nutjobs and whackos."

So here is where they are today...

Ex-soldier faces jail for handing in gun
Thursday, November 12, 2009, 10:30

A former soldier who handed a discarded shotgun in to police faces at least five years imprisonment for "doing his duty".

Paul Clarke, 27, was found guilty of possessing a firearm at Guildford Crown Court on Tuesday – after finding the gun and handing it personally to police officers on March 20 this year.

The jury took 20 minutes to make its conviction, and Mr Clarke now faces a minimum of five year's imprisonment for handing in the weapon.

In a statement read out in court, Mr Clarke said: "I didn't think for one moment I would be arrested.

"I thought it was my duty to hand it in and get it off the streets."

The court heard how Mr Clarke was on the balcony of his home in Nailsworth Crescent, Merstham, when he spotted a black bin liner at the bottom of his garden.

In his statement, he said: "I took it indoors and inside found a shorn-off shotgun and two cartridges.

"I didn't know what to do, so the next morning I rang the Chief Superintendent, Adrian Harper, and asked if I could pop in and see him.

"At the police station, I took the gun out of the bag and placed it on the table so it was pointing towards the wall."

Mr Clarke was then arrested immediately for possession of a firearm at Reigate police station, and taken to the cells.

Defending, Lionel Blackman told the jury Mr Clarke's garden backs onto a public green field, and his garden wall is significantly lower than his neighbours.

He also showed jurors a leaflet printed by Surrey Police explaining to citizens what they can do at a police station, which included "reporting found firearms".

Quizzing officer Garnett, who arrested Mr Clarke, he asked: "Are you aware of any notice issued by Surrey Police, or any publicity given to, telling citizens that if they find a firearm the only thing they should do is not touch it, report it by telephone, and not take it into a police station?"

To which, Mr Garnett replied: "No, I don't believe so."

Prosecuting, Brian Stalk, explained to the jury that possession of a firearm was a "strict liability" charge – therefore Mr Clarke's allegedly honest intent was irrelevant.

Just by having the gun in his possession he was guilty of the charge, and has no defence in law against it, he added.

But despite this, Mr Blackman urged members of the jury to consider how they would respond if they found a gun.

He said: "This is a very small case with a very big principle.

"You could be walking to a railway station on the way to work and find a firearm in a bin in the park.

"Is it unreasonable to take it to the police station?"

Paul Clarke will be sentenced on December 11.

Judge Christopher Critchlow said: "This is an unusual case, but in law there is no dispute that Mr Clarke has no defence to this charge.

"The intention of anybody possessing a firearm is irrelevant."

The brits have lived under socialism for many years and this is what they get. We as a country are moving toward the same kind of insanity and we are being led their by all of government. Only way to stop it is to have smaller government.

One more example of the need to stay diligent in our fight for gun rights. Like the erosion of all freedoms it starts with something small and over time transforms into this.

No! They all fought for their rights.

They were kooks! That's why they got taken away!

They SHOULD have sat around and slammed eachother on the internet. THAT is the key to success.

Warriors beat on each other for practice before they take on an enemy. If the words bother you I hate to see how you will feel if this escalates :s0114::s0114:

That's simply retarded. An upstanding citizen does the right thing and he gets arrested for it. Then sentenced to five years.

What would you guys do if you found a gun? Keep it? Turn it in? Leave it alone?

Peronsally. I'd try to keep it.. But I'd let the police see if it were reported stolen, linked to a crime, ect. Which means I probably wouldn't end up keeping it.

Can they have swords?

I saw a video online of two police officers in england who can't carry guns getting their heads kicked in for about 10 minutes outside a bar by some unrulely patrons. The batons they had for defense didn't work too well when theirs 8 against 2. And it took back up about 10 minutes to get to them.

With our gangs, and all the trash from other nations coming here because were an easy country to scam out of money, we would be a nation of anarchy without guns. And by without guns I mean the good guys without guns. Because the bads guys always get them.

That's just stupid. This article would make me laugh if I didn't see it in our future.

the Brits tried that here, back in 1775 or so. It backfired on them.

What this will do to the law abiding citizenry of England will be to cause anyone seeing a firearm to simply continue on..... leaving the weapon for some nefarious ne-er do well to possess.

If the population there fail to raise a row over this injustice it will be a sure sign that the former sovereign of half the world has faded into oblivion.

SHEEP ........ that is the first thing that came to my mind. When you bend over and take it from a government who does not care....... that is what happens. Gun laws don't work and for those who believe in gun laws...... sorry to tell you that they don't work and there is no santa either........... SORRY
