870 & 30-06

Hello, I just bought two guns a remington 870 and mossberg 30-06 used. How can i figure out what year these guns where produced. I am trying to see if the 870 was of the bad "batch" people talk about. Mine seems to work flawlessly, it was dirty but i cleaned it and no problems.

Is there a site i can go too, beside calling the companies?

Call in the serials. If purchased private property I warn you, I've had a friend lose a gun after figuring out it was stolen by calling in the serial to get info.
