The three rifles in order of group size:

1. Remington Model 582, tube magazine (1976)

2. Remington Model 514, single shot (1970)

3. Ruger 77/22, rotary box magazine (1984)

All had similar open sights.

The single shot has no disadvantage shooting from the bench. It loads easier and faster than you'd think.

I do not like Ruger rotary magazines. Not to load them, and not to fumble around trying to seat them in the well.

The Ruger has the smoothest action, next the 582, then the 514. But it's hard to compare them considering original cost. In their respective years of manufacture, the 582 cost new about $65; the 514, about $24, the Ruger 77/22, about $375-400 when they first came out.

For me ammo is probably the #1 factor. Today I shot Norma tac22, Winchester super suppressed, American eagle suppressor. Previously Eley
Match had very nice 3 shot groups at 31 yards shown here:
and cci stand velocity was double the group size, shown here:
Norma tac22, Winchester sup suppr, were both double the size of cci st velocity.l (ie they were horrible).

The one I'm unsure of is american eagle suppressor. It's always been outstanding for me but trying it in this rifle first 2 groups were odd. Then 3 shots shown below plus 1 flyer. I think it must take X rounds to settle down. Maybe cuz they are copper plated I don't know. I hope to shoot it again tomorrow and if I get those tiny groups at 31 yards with it I'll be flippin' tickled but we'll see. The squares on all targets are 1"
