Does anyone have an idea of the value or know of someone who
can provided an estimate of the value of my 1911 Colt 45?

This was my grandfather's 1911 that he carried thru World War One.
I looked up the date on manufacture using the series number and
it was made in early 1913.

I need an approximate value for insurance purposes. Condition
is good if you consider that it went thru a war in the trenches of
Europe and is over 100 years old.

Thanks,

TJ

Not sure how to post a picture. Tried once and it didn't work.
However, if you have seen one 1911 colt 45, you have seen most all of them.
Cannot really tell the condition from a picture.

Bluing , grip condition , bore condition and if it has original parts , to include the magazine all play a role here...
One 1911 is not quite the same as the others.
Hence why I asked for a picture.

I'll ask @CountryGent in here to help you with posting pictures...he speaks computer far and away better than I do....:D

If insurance is going to cover its potential loss should it be appraised?
Barring that, I'd do $10,000 so if it's lost you can get a good giggity on in Vegas to get over it.

It makes a huge difference which company, of the several government contractors, actually manufactured it. It should be stamped on it somewhere.

Appraisers will also need to see the proof marks closely; the depth of some stamps/engravings compared to other markings, and the sharpness of roll marks. A lot can happen to a gun in 110 years and the clues can be difficult to see.

Hey TJ,
Actually an image is the only way anyone can give you an idea of value!
it could be worth $1,000 - $10,000 depending on condition, provenance, accompanying data etc. There are inexpensive appraisal services if you want real value that will stand up to an insurance adjusters denial of stated value... sentimental value is a solely subjective assessment.

Best wishes
