Manufactured in 1902 - Serial Number J 6243 matching barrel, receiver, box magazine and bolt - safety is serial number 6572.
29" barrel makes for a very accurate deer/elk rifle with the ladder sights marked to 2000 meters! pretty optimistic for 7mm.

"In it's original configuration, Spain used this type of rifle in the Spanish American war, as well as the Rif war in Morocco, and on into their civil war between the communists and the Nationalists under Franco. Oviedo itself was the scene of a long siege by the communists against a small force of Spanish army and volunteers, who fought them off until they ran out of ammo and were about to be overrun, when at the last moment they were relieved by part of the main army under Franco. Maybe this rifle was used in that battle."
This rifle has been 'sporterized' at some time with the wood stock cut in front of the second barrel band. Loading the 4 round box is either by single round or with stripper clips. There are 3 loaded clips in an 80 year old box of ammo marked Mexico. The barrel is bright with well defined lands and grooves. Function check completed. Ladder sight is in excellent condition as the front iron sight, 3 modes of safety, blind box magazine, bolt, firing pin and all function as required. I see no import marks. Includes 1 box of vintage ammo as shown.
Asking $350 obo - No sales to Washington residents unless you want to pay me to deliver the rifle to your FFL.
