I have had this can of powdered eggs since 2008. I was going to open it a year or two ago but held off. With the current price of eggs at ridiculous to insane prices, I was thinking now might be the time to open it. The can says you can store them for 5 to 10 years unopened.

What's the oldest can of powdered eggs you have opened? Were they edible or spoiled?

I had my fill of powered eggs in the Army....no more thank you very much.

Experimenting with expired food...or some old azz food that has been sitting around for 17 years....
Seems like an excellent way to hurt yourself.
Food is not the place to cheap out , so to speak.

I do not like green eggs and ham...Sam I am.... :D

This site claims 25 year shelf life for their powdered eggs.

That sounds like encouragement to me. I went ahead and opened the can and they seem fine. I have never knowingly had powdered eggs before but I am going to try a taste of some scrambled in bacon fat.

I added some shredded cheese and bacon crumbles, down the hatch they go. This is two eggs worth.

Without having experienced fresh powdered eggs, I couldn't say whether these were better or worse. They definitely did not taste or smell spoiled in any way.

Overall I would say they weren't great but they weren't horrible. It gave me another 12 grams of protein and the price was right since I had them on hand.

The next test will be baking something with them.

If the powder is dry, not clumping, no specks or spots or discoloration and smells okay you should be fine. By smell, if it smells moldy, "chemically" (is this even a word) or the like stay away.

It's kinda like old gun powder!

What I posted was not for encouragement.
While it is too late for today and your breakfast.

I would not experiment with out of date or old azz food that has been stored away.
Today was lucky....the next time maybe you won't be.

Buy some fresh eggs...and stop being so damn cheap with what you eat.

You should eat them until gone and post about the experience every day.

They will be a great aid to your body composition efforts.

Maybe we could pass the hat to get him some fresh eggs rather than having to eat 17 yo powder. We'd have to raise a couple hundred to get him threw the week

OK, because you hesitated I'm now down to 13 FRESH large grade AA eggs.... but I'll make you a deal you CAN'T refuse...

I'll throw in two eggs over medium lightly seasoned with black pepper on buttered wheat toast...

For TWO million dollars!

arakboss likes to experiment. I see no reason to stop him at this point.
