the 357 Sig is based on the S&W 40cal. The 10mm case is longer, so more powder.

but then maybe the little 9mm bullet couldnt handle the velocity? I dont know...

and it pro ably wouldnt be much different than the 9x25, 38 Super...

I think all the self defense calibers have already been invented. Anything moving forward will just always be a wildcat niche.
 
Another idea a co-worker and I were talking about is taking an M1 carbine and refurbish it to fire a 10mm mag...Now who wouldn't want a handy semi auto carbine in that chambering? Kind of a modern day guide gun.
Yup, Take those velocity numbers from the chart posted above and bump them by another 200-300 FPS and you'd have an ideal carbine round.
With a 180gr slug 2k FPS could probably be achieved, making it a great stopping cartridge.
