A Cut Above was fantastic for a recent large batch of transfers I conducted. I liquidated my father's collection and did many transfers. All were smooth and convenient.
The staff appear to be real firearm enthusiasts as well.
(Darn now that I think about it I wish I hadn't sold that Blackhawk...)
I met a forum member at Cut Above yesterday to do a private party transfer, and was pleasantly surprised to find so many knowledgable people working the counter. I was the buyer, and my total time at the counter to take care of business was only 10 minutes or so, even though there were several other customers also at the counter. I will gladly make the drive from Corvallis again next time I want to meet a buyer in the Beaverton/Aloha/Hillsboro area.

Pros
One of the cheapest FFL costs; Very friendly staff
Been having guns sent here for FFL transfers for me for a few years. Staff is great and the cost is one of the lowest in the Metro area. Great place for private party transfers. The guns they have are in good shape and of good quality.
Friendly and helpful employees, good selection of guns, good prices
Cons
None
This is my first impression of A CUT ABOVE PAWN.
Yesterday, I stopped by after work just to check it out since I live in the area. I had no intention of getting anything but if I saw something I liked it would be a bonus. I was politely greeted and asked if I needed any help. I said it was my first time in the shop and wanted to look around. They had a good selection of guns and I had an interest in their shotguns. Most had good to reasonable prices. I could see almost every item was in good condition. No flea market junk here, at least not any I could see.
I was asked again if I wanted to look at anything in particular and I asked some basic questions about the shotguns. The employee (James - I think) came over and I said I was looking for a 20 gauge shotgun since I accidentally bought some 20 gauge shells. I figured I should just get a 20 gauge shotgun. Problem solved. He agreed.
He handed me the only 20 gauge they had to look over despite me initially refusing since my hands were hot and sweaty from work. As I looked over the shotgun he immediately offered to reduce the price if I was interested in buying it. I was hesitant at first because I really didn't plan to buy anything that day. We discussed whether I should get it or wait another day.
He did what I consider is reasonable. He tried to sell me the shotgun but it wasn't pressure sales at all. I got the impression he understood and respected my reasons and didn't pressure me at all. That was very cool. How often does that happen these days?
We negotiated a little more and I ended up buying the shotgun. I'm just waiting for my background check to clear before I go pick it up. Overall, I was pleased to shop there because I was treated with courtesy and respect. I was also given a great deal on a shotgun!
I can't speak for everyone but they earned my business that day. There are other items on my shopping list so I intend to return. Would I recommend this shop? Yes. Do I feel they are honest, fair, and helpful? Yes.
They seem like pretty decent people working there so if you have an unpleasant experience, go back another day and give them a chance to give you a better experience. We all have bad days. I know I have. I've also been treated terribly at other stores at one time or another so I realize it happens. I won't pretend it doesn't. I have a feeling this store is a place I'll do my shopping again because I tend to return to places that treat me right. They treated me right.
I have had a range of over 20 FFL transactions with this business. With the majority of businesses, the service, and attitude you receive can be somewhat random depends on who was there. I found this team to be very consistent in customer focus attitude, knowledge, and efficiency. The fact that they are very conscious of every customer in the shop even when they are busy tells a lot. Lots of business just ignore you if you are the last one in the line until you get to the desk.
Sorry about the location but 10 years later we're sorta stuck here.
We do thank you though for the great review of our staff and service. We appreciate all of gun customers and feel fortunate to have such a huge following of great people.
Recently, they helped my lady transfer a pistol to a family member in CA. Most FFLs would have told us to pound sand when we mentioned where we were sending it to. Not only were they willing to help, but they went out of their way to research to make sure that everything was done correctly. I have used them several times for transfers and online orders and they have never once been anything but polite, helpful and professional. They are a great crew and are the place I always suggest when someone needs a reliable FFL.
Responsive, courteous, great comms and absolutely reasonable!

Pros
Great priced transfers and shipping
Right on top of details and disclosures
Cons
Cheap, petty people don't like them because they are in a for profit business... is that really so bad?
Bought a firearm from a local NWF's member and as I live in Idaho it had to transfer through a local FFL. The Seller picked A Cut Above...
The folks there made the transaction and transfer to my FFL in North Idaho as simple as I could have imagined. Communication was immediate and correct, shipping was reasonable, they handled the incoming payment for the firearm and did so in a completely business like manner.
Last Saturday morning. Me & the wife bought a pistol from another great Northwestfirearm's member. Meet up A Cut Above pawn shop. Wife had a instant approval. We were so happy!
Employee was very good. Nice guy.
If there’s a delay, they don’t take possession of a gun so both the buyer and seller have to come back when the BG check clears.
Very friendly, likable crew, for example the pocket watch guy is knowledgeable about collectibles and always great to banter with while waiting for the BG check to clear. They know what they're doing and I really wouldn't go anywhere else for a transfer unless geography demanded it (e.g. buyer/seller lives an hour away and can't/won't come to Beaverton). The only downside is if a BG check doesn't go through quickly, they won't hold the gun until it clears and require both parties to come back, which is kind of inconvenient. Fortunately since the state has been putting CHL holders at front of the line I don't worry about that anymore but I could see it being a problem for folks that don't have a CHL. Since these days BG check lines are thousands of people long, delays are likely.
Other than transfers, I think I've only ever bought from them once. It's not through any fault of theirs, I just am usually after something very specific and they don't control what people bring in to sell. I've sold to them as well (though it's been a few years). For a pawn shop, they're not unreasonable when you account for the fact that they can't offer retail since they need to sell it at retail. Obviously they prefer well-known brands that sell well (Beretta, Ruger, and the like) and you'll do much better selling something Like that rather than something relatively obscure and undesirable.
I am stuck on them; always good service, nice people, and regardless of staff changes, treat me very nicely. I am pretty sure I have been doing a lot of business with them for 8 years...FFL transfers, and new orders...
