I said this the other day so here I go.. I will attend a gun show if someone is willing to pay me $100.. $150 of I stay an hour and talk to the guy selling swords and knives.. I will engage in conversation and even ask about the metal hardness of a random sword.. this is going to be hard for me so I will earn every penny. You can take photos but no videos.

For the rest of my time I will look at prices, ask questions about random guns "and be lied to". I might even try to buy some ammo or mags at stupid prices.

The last gun show I went to they were still selling glock mags for $120 each... those sleaze balls still around? Lol.

Who is willing to pay to watch a man have his Saturday ruined?

Yes I hate gun shows that much.

The gun shows around here are what they are. Market conditions drive prices, minimum wage laws drive prices, demand drives prices. Nobody forces anyone to buy at the gun show. However, at least we still have them. Look at the gun show scene in Cali, NY, NJ, MA, etc. Gun shows are severely watered down and regulated into oblivion. At least here you can still walk into a huge exhibition hall filled with tables and tables full of guns and everything else.
Read Calguns, NYGunforum, etc. Those poor folks can only lament about what they used to have before their states went full Communist.

I was just having fun. I buy plenty of gun stuff like the rest of you. LGS and online.

I'm guessing with all the competition and ability to check prices and "lies". Gun shows must have lowered there prices since i last went. Heck that was 2001 I think. Maybe 2004. I dunno.

I'm just remembering gun shows from the 90s to early 2000s.

Since this is a ten minute drive from my house, you can bet I'll be there. It was better for me when they were near the saddle club, but then it went out to the Elks club and it was just too far a drive. It's not a bad show, as it's the Arms Collectors. And there are some neat firearms on display.

I started going to SWW Arms Collector Shows back when they were at the American Legion Hall at Salmon Creek. That was back in the 80's. Then they moved several times and I continued to follow them and attend. But afraid this move to Battleground is further than I care to go, so wont be going up there to the new venue. Wish them good luck though.
As for great small gun shows, and not the high priced for profit shows, the Oregon Arms Collectors Show can't be beat. $3 entry, free parking, and a really great bunch of guys to buy from, ask questions of, or just see some beautiful displays each month. I'll continue to go to OAC and forget the high priced entry, and parking fees of the for profit shows.

The large "For profit" gun shows such as seen at the Portland Expo center or Clark County Fairgrounds have to rent the pavilions for a rather large fee. The vendors in turn are charged much more money to set up tables to cover those costs. As a result, there really aren't any good deals found at those shows. You'll pay the full price if not more for just about anything. Those are actually more like "Trade Shows". The vendors then charge more money to recover the costs of setting up their displays. It's not just gun shows. That makes it seem like I'm paying a cover charge just to go into a retail store to look at goods. Organizations such as OAC and ACSWW are just small membership clubs that try to keep the traditional "Gun Shows" alive. They try to find the lowest cost place to rent to set up for a show, and hopefully it works out. OAC has been fortunate that they can get the Jackson Armory and pretty much stay there. ACSWW will sell you a membership (last I had one it cost $20), you get a card, and that admits you to the years shows for free. Not a bad deal.

We have indeed been very fortunate o keep our OAC show at Jackson Armory for a very long time. And our relationship to the Guard has been a good one for both OAC and the Guard. We've been told on several occasions that the OAC group is the best renter they have, and the least trouble for the Guard employees and the building. We try hard to maintain the relationship, and leave the building as clean as we found it.
Moving around is the biggest killer for small shows, as folks wont try very hard to find you if you move the venue. And it's tough to get the word out to many who attend, but aren't members. OAC being a non profit has to keep entry fees low, and dues low. We also maintain a high quality in what goes on tables, and don't allow the deluge of unrelated paraphernalia that the big gun shows allow. All they care about is renting tables, not what goes on them. We prefer to ensure the folks who attend an OAC show will find it enjoyable, even if they don't always buy a firearm. That's the emphasis behind OAC having a display theme each month. We want to encourage members to show their collections and interests, and that hopefully makes it interesting for all who attend.
OAC membership is $20 a year, which gets you into the shows free. At $3 a month entry, you save $18 a year by becoming a member. Tables rent for $10 per table, per month, but renting a table(s) gets the renter a good discount over renting monthly.

Yeah but if there's nothing there you want, mostly because anything you see of intrest is way overpriced....why bother?
There hasn't been a gun show in Eugene worth the price of admission in yrs.
I'm definitely not going to drive to Battleground for a bigger but more of the same lot of cheap crap.
I'm sorry but I can find what I'm looking for at a much better price online...
Just sayin.

I think much of what people want dictates if they enjoy a gun show or not. If a guy wants mostly modern guns, then online or local gun stores fill his needs without going to any gun show. And likely the prices will be better too. The online gun market for new guns is very competitive, with many sellers happy to get small profits and large numbers of sales.
But if the buyer is a collector, or interested in used firearms from the past, then the right gun show is really their best option. You can find collectible firearms online, but you're bidding against the whole country to get them. Odds are you'll pay a higher price once the dust settles on an online auction. But many still do so because they don't want to spend time looking at local gun stores, or attending good gun shows.
I personally avoid online auctions as I prefer looking at what I buy if it's older used guns I'm interested in. So a good gun show is my first choice when I'm looking for a piece to fill a niche in my collection. I'm happy to travel all day to a quality gun show if it means finding that one firearm I've been wanting. And if it's to a quality gun show I'm happy to be able to see good stuff, even if I don't find the exact gun I was hoping to find there.

I am a little prejudice but I have come across some of the best deals in my life at this show. They also have an FFL dealer on site that does free transfers. I have been a member of ACSWW for many years. Come by and check it out.... you may be surprised.

Does membership of ACSWW also get you into OAC shows ? I know if you are a member of OAC you can get into ACSWW for free.

OAC allows any member of any other non profit gun show to enter free with their membership badge. They also allow military and police in uniform free entry.
