Probably should've used a super fine scroll saw in a jig/ fixture. And then stain matched the cut and then all sealed with at least wax for field use.

I'm sorry for your loss -- that was a beautiful stock piece. What'd he use, a jig saw? It's like his blade had a depth more than 4x the kerf and he had to chunk it out on the turn.
