I used to live out of a van for weeks doing forestry in Southern Oregon, and I really loved it. Some of my jobs were walk-ins up to 10 miles in the wilderness. Living in the wilderness really changes your senses, and your spacial awareness really increases. I could walk out of the forest at night with no flashlight, and arrive on the logging road within a could of hundred feet from my rig, because my sense of direction became so good.
