I do a lot of research before I make a purchase of a firearm. I study not only price but options and availibility of ammo and parts. I know that a used remmi 7MM mag. Isn't worth $750.00. But if you add a nightforce optic on it you have a real bargin. Still, some will continue to use low brow tactics such as fear mongering, overselling or just out right lying about what they sell to get a buck. When I sell something I evaluate what its true value is. Again I research what the average price is then I adjust my price based on condition and options. I set my price firm because I've done my homework and know that I'm asking for a fair price. But like a lot of people said that most will sell something based on what its value is to them as opposed its normal fair market price.

I've been trying to buy a certain pistol here, so far I've had two people offer theirs. In both cases the price was more than a new one although the first one wasn't bad, just more than I wanted to go. The second was the old "it's hard to find", "no one has them", "I added accessories". Even then it was still list price for everything. Why would I pay $800 when I can gt the same thing for around $600? The did have 200 rds ammo included but they would never tell me what ammo it was, could have been Wolf adn I can get it for $229 a 1,000.

Anyway, I passed. I'll just keep looking at the shows and someday I'll get one.

To many buyers think the are know it all when it comes to gun prices.. Gun shows i put all my items high and also state i will take a OBO. value is in the eye of the beholder.. But the idea to pay 2000 for a 300 doller gun is nuts... O well ..

here's my 2 cents. Most of the people think that their guns are "special" and some go as far as thinking "There's someone who will buy this.". I know a guy who sells guns, and he explained that sometimes people pay way too much for a gun, and when they go to sell it, they think it's "Gained Value" and try to raise the price well above retail. Also some are just plain greedy bastards. or they have not done proper research.

I buy almost all my guns new because people simply just want to much. Plus almost all the time if I see a gun I want and it is only fifty or seventy dollars new purchased by me I will go buy it............

I know it is a tough time right now and I think people or trying to get as high as they can because they need money. Which by all means is their right. I have not bought a handgun on here for over a year because the stores are cheaper. I bought a couple of rifles which were good deals but to far and in between.

Like almost all Glocks in the store average $540 or less but it is hard to find one on here for $500 and many are severly used and look like crap and the price is still six hundred.

But that is why we have the pass button.....................

Funny you mentioned Glocks, Scott, because I've been looking for one for a few months and noticed the exact same thing. Have become convinced I'd rather postpone the purchase until I can find the time to buy one new.

That said, I've paid too much for most of my guns. Sometimes the convenience of a quick hand-off along my travel route made it worthwhile (getting to a retail location during retail hours can burn half a day). Other times the items were dated and not readily obtained locally even though they're not rare or collectible (such as Marlin animal stocks). Other times I simply didn't do my homework--lessons learned. Good idea to check in w/a buddy who's unimpressed with my latest prospect before I start counting out the bills...lol.

yeah those show guys can be scammers i was at that show and i saw a guy sell a lcp with crimson trace for 550 used wtf .people will pay more for no paper work one of my buddys just sold his 357 sig xd for 500 used .if you dont like my price dont buy my gun.lol

If somene is asking too much for an item, so what. It sells or it doesn't and I could care less. Often a seller paid too much for the piece to begin with. He paid $1000 for a $800 gun and thinks he is giving someone a deal at $900. There are a LOT of uneducated buyers that don't shop around and some guys don't care what the price is if it's something they want. At the same time I see items that are priced way below market and I don't hear anyone whining about that. The End

I posted my YUGO on here for $350. Then again I also had around $200 in aftermarket parts ie. Scope, stock, highrise scope mount, 30rd mag, bipod. Of something is priced over what you would want to pay, then overlook it!! There is no sense crying about it. Most people on here post high to accommodate the fact that people here like to barter prices. I go to auctionarms.com and look at the buy it now price to get a real idea of what to expect to pay. (my opinion) I monitor 4 sites to buy my firearms, and just wait and watch for that perfect deal. I just try not to get in a hurry and wait. If I want something that bad I just hit my local gun shop and get ripped off like the rest of us!

I like your point. I also post the price way hi just to have some room to barter down. Like a few days ago i posted my 308. I had a person here ask me a bunch of dum *** things about my gun.. H then send me a email telling me my gun is over price and he never had intrest in it .. I buy the rifle for 500 . I was sell the whole pkg . that is the after mrkt scope ,bipod and pelican hard case. also sling and stock shell holder. to top that off i tossed in 500rds of ammo.. so add that up i asked 1000 . so dude sends me this email thinking he is some hero that is telling me my gun is to high. what a *** hat.. well i did sell it for the 1000. the big thing on here is guys asking dum things. he is one on here that allways bubblegumes about the guns being to high price. nuff said...

one of the local gun shops has a special on the Smith Wesson MP 15 for $620; I'm not sure if its the .22 or the .223 version, but the MP-15 part made me think its the .223.....if one could get a basic AR for just around $600 NEW......true, there are some that I understand uses more expensive stuff, but basically an Ar is an AR is an AR is an AR to me >.> (until I own my first one and see what the differences are lol)

:s0013: Rant

Stop comparing guns to items like cars that depreciate the momment you drive them off a lot.

Guns unlike cars, electronics, clothes ect last for several generations handed down to son then grand son to great grand son and so on.

They appreciat the momment they leave a gun store as the original buyer has not only forked over the cash but became the first connected to that firearm he was one one willing to be fingerprinted, back ground checked added to the FFLs bound book and added to the "tempory" national gun registry , What your paying for is someone else to do that instead of you. Maybe privacy is worth paying a little more than retail.

Also there is inflation , cost of labor , a .22 such as a marlin that could be bought new in 1975 for $49 now cost new $150-200 so should a seller who bought his for $49 sell it to you for $49 so you can sell it for $150 since thats what its worth now.

If you don't like the price PM seller and say hey i can get this here send a link for $ how bout making me a deal. I have seen several items where prices have dropped considerably someone may have paid $850 new for a scope now its $650 new he has it listed at $700 and thinks its a fair price because he does not know that it has dropped

It comes down to this if you don't like the price, don't buy it, if its that bad no one else will either.

I understand you want a good deal so go to a dealer and get one.

I am fairly new to the firearm addiction and I purchased my 1st gun in August of 08. I bought a FNP .45 brand new for $420.00 @ Sportmans Warehouse. It came with 3 magazines, bladetech holster/mag carrier and case. THAT was a pretty good deal. One month later I bought a used WASR on outdoorstrader for $600, that probably wasnt such a good deal, "although it did come with 2 drum style mags". My point is that when I bought both of those I was clueless on firearm values and prices, I just wanted to start buying and I definately was affected by the "election" of the socialist pig in the white house.

On the flip side I put over $200 dollars into that WASR in the form of, quad rail, new trigger, foregrip and am now trying to sell it for $700 (not even breaking even on it) and I have people emailing me telling me I am way out of line and that it is not worth more than $450!
Cracks me up how people are "appraising experts when they haven't even seen the weapon.
I agree with not commenting on someone's listed price, its their choice and their gun, leave them alone and keep shopping!

I have skimmed all of the replies (forgive me if I missed one or two) to the initial post and I don't see anyone that has posted regarding unregistered firearms. If you go through a dealer or a vendor at a gun show, the gun will be registered in your name. If you buy it from someone on a forum, craigslist, etc there will normally be no trace. I am not saying that this is a bad practice, I am merely stating that the unregistered aspect to some people is worth the 10-20% mark-up you may find on gun ads. Some have touched on the fact that the market will bear whatever prices are being paid. Law-abiding or not unregistered firearms are always more enticing................

I think that some folks are forgeting that firearms are a tool. Not some mythical beast worthy of large amounts of cash. Maybe I'm different from most people but I put no more value on them as I would a drill, hammer or table saw. Sure, you can't kill a deer with a framing square (perhaps you could if you threw it hard enough) but you can't build a house with a 10/22 either. My point is the firearms industry is much like the jewery business. The mark up on on cost from manufature to the consumer sits anywhere 400% to 1000%.

I figure it costs a company between $25.00 to $50.00 in parts and labor for a WASR or a DRACO. So why should the consumer be charged $450.00 to$500.00?

After all,we are talking about tools not a commodity.
