For Sale is a Winchester 1892 in .25-20 that was mfg in 1905. Has a 24" barrel and looks to have been altered. Sometime in its life someone rounded the top half as it looks to have been full octagon barrel. With that change it looks like the magazine tube has been shortened. i inherited this rife so not sure complete history. Will Ship. Asking $250.

This is called a half round barrel, it is a factory configuration. RP

Sometime in its life someone rounded the top half as it looks to have been full octagon barrel.
I believe it started its life as full octagon barrel and has since has been made half rounded, maybe to lighten rifle. I don't know as original ow has passed away.

I believe you are correct on this one. Altered after the fact. Winchester would not have ground off any of the lettering.
