I'd choose the 48 over the 43X. Get a QUALITY holster and carry with one in the pipe. Carrying without a round in the chamber thinking you'll have time to rack the slide, is the equivalent of not wearing a seatbelt thinking you'll have time to put it on seconds before the crash.

Tho I carry a 43x I picked up an extra 48 slide for when I want a longer barrell. Great carry option.

I carry a Glock 43X daily. I carry a Glock because for the first have of my time in the Marines I carried a 1911. Then in the second half I carried a M9. One you flip the safety down to fire, the other you flip the safety up to fire. With a Glock I just pull the trigger to fire.

I don't trust my muscle memory to not kick in and put a weapon on safe when I need it in a high stress situation. So the Glock just works for me and I don't have to worry about it. Oh and I carry IWB with one in the chamber.

Unless you're carrying an Sig P320 IWB Appendix. Sig actually told one guy to carry it without one in the chamber.

Striker guns need sufficient training. We see evidence of that regularly. Especially in winter, you might consider a chest rig. Easily concealable under coat or vest. With a vest, you can draw through the right arm hole.
As well, I have changed my thoughts on carry guns. Now I carry the cheapest gun that is reliable. If shots must be fired in anger, the gun will go into evidence for 2-5 years. When it comes back, it will not be pretty. So, daily carry = utility weapon.
Great advice abut the risk of loss. Of course, make sure that "cheap" gun is reliable with good ammo.
But your life is worth whatever the price of the reasonable gun.

I'm using my Glock 19X as the hoise fun right now. I inherited it from my wife, who wasn't able to use it. Up until recently, I was the gun that I gave the least bubblegums about. That is until I traded a Micro 9 (which no hated) for an Sig P320, which I like better.

Now the Sig is the gun that I care the least about. It will be the house gun as soon as I get a light for it. Plausible deniability if it goes off on a burglar I'm pointing it at with my finger outside the trigger guard. They'll have to sue Sig. JK….

I haven't carried in a very long time. I recently acquired a Glock 43X and I'm considering carrying again in specific situations. I'm not a huge fan of the appendix holster though.
When I have carried a Glock , I just don't keep one in the chamber, which obviously is another step slowing down bringing the firearm to action.

The S&W shield plus has been recommended as a good alternative. Anyone have experience with that?

A) does anyone have any recommendations for a similar sized firearm with a non Glock style safety (I don't mind toggling something)
B) an alternate carry style
that with practice can give similar draw speed?
Have you thought about a Glock 48?

Is it true that Sig p320s fire on their own? Also, I'd DA/SA better than striker fired for shtf?

PDW and CCW in my eyes are two completely different things. Conceal carry weapon most people are generally going to say get as small as you can with maximum capacity. Personal Defense Weapon I instantly think compact PCC Vector, scropion , Stribog, B&T APC. The 43x and 48 are great CCW but if we are talking standard handguns as PDW then I wouldn't get anything under 4.5 inch barrel preferably 5 inch.

They do, but then you're having to buy all new mags AND you have to use the Shield Arms mag release (their mags won't drop using stock Glock release). So a lot more needs to be invested to bring it to the level that other firearms are already at out of the box. But yes, definitely an option.

Not sure where you get that info.

I run my 43x in competition with sheild mags, stock mag release, they drop just fine.

Correct.

When you have the shield mag release the OEM mags get hung up though.

Either way I stick to OEM mags. I had nothing but problems with the shield mags.

YMMV.

If I want 15 rounds I'll carry a 19.

I have heard that before. Mine have been great, both 2nd gen and 3rd gen.

Now if I use the extensions, I do end up with some problems, but only ever used those in competition
