Want to sell my 1964 Savage 99 in .308. My original plan was to hunt with this 99. It is a 1964 fancy inlaid stock internal rotary mag version. this is not a year that had the round counter. It does have period correct Weaver 4x scope mounted in the correct Weaver rings. Great gun in nice overall condition. Looks like a few dings and two small cracks that have been epoxy repaired in the distant past. So she is priced at the bottom end of the current value range on these based on the flaws.
For me, while a beautiful gun and classic design, after using a featherweight polymer stocked rifle for years the 99 is just plain heavy to hike with all day. Yeah...I'm old. Plus it is surely the noisiest action of any lever gun. But I still have the itch to take a buck with a lever gun.
So I would sell her for $650 cash/silver to fund an alternate, but would prefer to swap for a pre 2000s angle eject 30-30 from Winchester, Marlin or any of the Sears/JC Penny/Western Auto/etc variants. An old 336 would be perfect. I would actually prefer the cross bolt safety that everyone bubblegumes about and it doesn't need a scope. Buyer or traders would cover their own transfer fees at A Cut Above. More than happy to text/email pics if interested. PM me with any questions and include a number or addy and I'll send some pics.
Thanks for looking and safe shooting.
