Think about the amount of money that is pumped into the BGC system in Oregon and they can't hire enough people to do the checks in a timely manner. I guess because it's guns it doesn't matter if Oregon doesn't comply with the law like they require us to.

I kind of doubt that they can't hire enough people (I assume you are talking about the OSP).

What I bet is happening is that the OSP/state, simply do not want to budget for it. Two possible reasons; cyclic demand and having that bottleneck slows down the approvals possibly discouraging some people from buying (especially those who are buying for the first time).

$1,460,000 to Oregon for the background checks so far this year.

If the average firearm + two boxes of ammo costs $450, that's another $6,570,000 in firearm taxes to
the Feds.

I would imagine the same. Budget and simply not caring likely explains a lot of it.

I seem to recall in the debate over instant background checks decade ago there being "what ifs" involving corruption, incompetence, or both on the part of those conducting said. And here we are. 😮

I think you are spot on. There are more ways than one to bring about gun control.

Remember way back when they were caught creating a gun registry? They tried to say it was just to audit the system.

If these were Washington numbers, you can add another $5.5 million for sales tax.
