So a friend of mine took a picture of one of these when she was driving around here in Vancouver, specifically in Horman.

I don't know much about them so I was hoping you guys could give me some info. Mainly like who uses those? It seems a bit of overkill for a police force to use.

I did a little net searching and thank I found a match, except the one I found does have the gun turret on top is a little different

Yeah my friend was telling me that it was a police vehicle. It just seems like overkill to me. Especially with the turret mount.

Police forces get stuff like this all the time... Usually surplus from uncle sugar... The PD I used to volunteer for had some variety of armored car, it was pretty much a glorified dodge ramcharger whose body had been stripped off and replaced with a large, heavy steel box that was full of sharp edges, it still had the airforce property tags in it. It was also clear it was designed for people who wear helmets all day, as just getting into/out of it would result in at least several severe bumps to the head.
