Going to be traveling to Japan in a few months and found this store that specializes in deactivated and replica firearms. Some of their stock is complete unobtainium here in the states. Should I try and bring some back? Also if anyone has been to Japan and has recommendations for surplus shops or cool places to check out I'm all ears

If the price is right...so to speak....
And the firearm you are getting has enough working parts to use on / upgrade / restore an existing firearm that actually works and shoots...
Then I would say yes....otherwise no thank you.

While I understand the appeal of such things...and even own a few firearms I do not shoot due to age....
As a general rule...I like to shoot my firearms and have no interest in owning something I can't shoot.

Same. A firearm I can't shoot, even if very little, seems sort of pointless. To each their own though. :)

Yeah looking into it more they weld em up tight and may even have a hole drilled in the receiver. Was also about to zoom in on tags and an mp40 was something like $1700 for a wall hanger

Will probably still go to check it out and torment the in-laws

Japanese firearm laws are incredibly strict, I mean to ridiculous lengths. Its effectively impossible for a citizen to own a real firearm and makes European countries look like Texas in comparison. Dont expect any of these to be useable in any way. Even their laws for deactivated guns are stricter than other countries. Every functional part will have been cut and welded made inoperable...
But thats why they lead the world in replicas and have for a longtime. Hollywood productions used to source their replicas from Japan before there was a good enough industry here. For example in Full Metal Jacket any scene that didnt require a blank firing gun actually used the fake Japanese replica M16 props. There are many other films that did that too, because theyre so realistic.

Pretty much sums up my general thoughts too! I'm not a museum and if it doesn't function, or isn't safe to shoot due to age, it's just a dust collector. :s0155:

ETA: Andy, I do understand some of those old front stuffers though and, they can be cool to have to reminisce on the days of yesteryear. :D

If they were a reasonably priced I think they're not a bad idea for display but that's mostly because I live in a crowded suburb and prefer to keep everything functional locked up

When I was looking at those pics all I could think was it was a crying shame those BEAUTIFUL guns had been done in like that. They had a LOT of really nice looking stuff there. All the writing was in Japanese but damn some nice looking guns if they still worked!

DAMN! I guess there must be someone wanting one but at that price too steep for me. Still such a damn shame they had to do that to those guns.

Hard to imagine there is enough interest in in deactivated and replica firearms to justify a gun store like place that sells them, let alone prices like that!
I think its partly due to Japan's extreme gun laws so its one of the only avenues for locals to even get close to a gun and I know movie production companies buy them
