I am considering the new Browning BAR Mk4 rifle for purchase. I read that the new models have improved accuracy due to threading the barrel to the receiver. I am wondering if anyone has experience with the new rifles and whether or not the accuracy has really improved or if it's just new marketing from Browning. Thank you

I don't know about a mk4, but I had a mk3 lightweight stalker in 300winmag that was a tack driver. With handloads it was the equal to any bolt gun I have owned.

I saw an article on this gun, but I've not seen one. From the article it was mentioned that the gun comes with a 10 round mag. If you want to hunt big game with it in Oregon, you'll need a 5 round or smaller mag. Just an FYI.

Id be cautious buying a rifle that needed its accuracy improved. What level of accuracy are you looking for?

Where's the fun in that? :s0140:
Honestly, I'd bet you're more likely to get an accurate these days, than not. Where in the olden days, it was quite often things needed improvement.
My first Ruger 77 MKII, bought in '90 I believe, shot tiny groups box stock as it came with 150gr Remington Core-Lokts, but my 1951 Winchester 70, with a fine bore and crown, bedded and free floated, shoots groups about 1.5" on a good day.
Unless just punching paper, 1"-1.5" groups will kill about anything.

Agree with that, its probably a very accurate rifle but it depends on what one considers accurate, a lot of people confuse accuracy with precision. It would help to know what he wants to use if for too.

It seems that over the years the BARs have had a reputation for inconsistent accuracy. Perhaps that is just because they are being compared to bolt action rifles. I am curious if Brownings new method of mating the barrel to the receiver will actually make a difference. I will likely buy one and test it out. Not the DBM variant with the extended magazine though, I prefer a more flush magazine.
