The HK VP9L isnt new per se, however they recently updated all VP9s with an updated grip frame etc. I personally like the old 'Batman' version better, as it fits my grip perfectly.
I LOVE the VP9 series. So much so that it is my personal bedside gun. I have had or currently have just about every handgun out there, and at the end of the day, that is the one that sits next to me as my go to. IMO there is nothing I would change- it is perfect for me. Combine the VP9L with a quality red dot, a quality light such as the Surefire X300, and one of the 21 rd mags for the VP9 series, and you have a formidable home defense gun!

I bought my daughter a VP9SK for her birthday and it's a FANTASTIC pistol.

I only have a VP9 which I bought back in 2014. I enjoy shooting my VP9 and have fired 1000s of rounds through it over the years.

I have a VP9 that I love. Bought a VPL slide and now have one great pistol with two awesome configurations. I shoot irons on the standard and red dot on the L slide.
