If you are using a free account on this board, then your account can only store a max of 50 private conversations. Once you hit that limit, people will no longer be able to send you private messages.

That is the problem that you are experiencing. You need to manually LEAVE some of your old conversations in your inbox, which will then remove them from your inbox, and thus free up space so that you can then receive new messages.
