Pros
  • Large area
  • Free
Cons
  • Have to wait and not the safest shooting place.
  • Not safe with the crowded and it's uncontrolled
  • Muddy and dirty
  • Way out there
You have to wait and not the safest shooting place at times. I was packing up when an older guy rolled up and started shooting close to me with out telling me and blew out my ears.WTF? Dangerous place to shoot at. Such a long drive and the roads are bad

Range as of 11APR17 is setup as follows:

NO SNOW, ROADS CLEAR AND GRATED

-Parking turnout has room for 7-8 vehicles if people space correctly

-Lots of large boulders keep people from driving vehicles into the lower pit.

-Firing line sits ~20 feet above the pit. steep but not impossible to summit.

-The largest mound of gravel base sits slightly off-center to the left, it is exactly 100yds to the base.

-Farthest birm is a mixture of dirt and gravel. Currently, back wall is 200yds (this is your farthest shooting distance)
-Parking lot is always littered with trash and old shotgun shells. Please take out a full bag of trash on your way out so we can keep this privilege.

***WARNINGS***

-Because of the distance to the closest large hill (100 yds) some shooters have been known to set up a firing line about 30yds inside the pit facing to the left. this removes the ability completely to establish a safe firing line at the top of the parking/shooting area.

-Dirt bike and ATV riders have been known to sit at the far end of the pit above the 200yrd birm and watch shooters. I know, this seems ridiculous but I would not have reported it if I had not seen it with my own eyes.

-Watch who is shooting out there with you. Not all of them are safe NWFA members :) A couple years ago my brother in law and I were shooting and a guy pulls up, drops a steel plate @ 15 yds, pops on a bulletproof vest and proceeds to unload his magazine at it. I grabbed my brother and jumped in front of my truck. Needless to say, we tossed our gear in the rig and bailed, THESE PEOPLE EXIST!

-Do not go alone. I know, I can't stop you from going shooting by yourself but let me explain why I say this. When you go downrange, even 25yrds, it takes a good couple minutes because of the gravel path and boulders to navigate. Plus you have to walk around the firing line to go downhill. Because of the relatively high traffic along the road, it's easy for a dirt bike/ATV to drive up, snag your rifle off the bench, and ride off. And that's the best case. It is conceivable that said person could also drive up, suppress you down range with a rifle while you have a pistol at best, and steal all of your gear. Unlikely, but possible. The last thing I want to do is read about this in a NWFA post!

That's about it. If you have any other questions just ask, either I or someone else who is familiar with the range will surely be able to help.

Cheers!
