A couple dudes with shovels can take out a railroad, not sure how much damage they could do to a landing ship. I mean, sure, sapper packs, dones,some C4, or a bunch of other things would be shorter work than shovels, but I don't believe railroads are as invincible as the author appears to think they are

You have to go looking for ships, with train tracks you just skim a drone along them a few feet off the ground until you find something you want a big hole in

And the train itself is not hard to find - it has to stick to the tracks and generally once it passes thru an area with observers its direction and timetable are known. Plus it is much harder to deal with a derailed train than it is with damage to tracks themselves. Take out a railroad bridge and it can take a long time to replace it.

It is hard to take evasive action with a train. Even harder to take evasive action with train tracks.

Switching stations are prime targets for small time stuff, sabotage, small drones etc. "Tracks" and roadbeds are pretty tough and easily repaired.
