I thought a clean weld was beyond my abilities when I had a flux core welder. I bit the bullet and bought a MIG and a mix gas tank and in very little time I could make good clean welds. From my experience I would not try to weld anything of value with flux core wire unless you are a LOT better at it than I was.

It was about 35 years ago when I bought my Lincoln 180 mig. It is still working perfectly. Today I would probably get one of the Chinese MIG's. The gas bottle is, of course, a big expense of a MIG. After 35 years it has been worth every penny I paid for it back then, a great long term investment.

I certainly wish I bought a PPs parts kit as well as several other parts kits 35 years ago when they were dirt cheap. There was no internet and really no way to know that building a semi-auto is perfectly legal.
