One Court case in Oregon pretty much declared that privately owned vehicles on public roads are "public places", and thus "no expectation of privacy" (there is that ORS section describing handguns in vehicles , and Pirtland and other cities does have city laws relating to "public" carry/transport of loaded firearms) so.. technically police and Sheriffs can (and ought to) use that court case as "probable cause" to arrest and charge certain populations for doing illegal things "in public places"

What police? I do see sheriffs though pretty often when I go to clackamas county.

So your private vehicle is considered a public place when it is on a public road in Minnesota…. Does that mean you have to share it with homeless and crackheads????

What an asinine statement and decision. This is what happens when the party of socialism is allowed to rule in any locale for too long, you lose the balance of logic and judgement.

This was decided in Multnomah (of course), in 2008. Minnesota just followed Multnomah's lead

Definitely don't buy a vehicle with a rooftop tent. When you go to the grocery store you might come out and find that squatters have moved in and then you can't move your car! :s0112:

What squatters? I didn't see any squatters, officer.

Sound familiar? It's all linked. You'll own no property and be happy for it. We will provide all you need and are required to survive.

Weird. Why would they even charge the guy if he had a BB gun in his car? Was he doing some other criminal activity and this was an ad-on charge or something?
BB guns are included under the Minnesota statute that prohibits carrying rifles or shotguns in public. To have a BB gun in a public setting, it needs to be unloaded and kept in a gun case. However, there are exceptions for people with pistol permits or under certain circumstances, like bringing the weapon home after a purchase or taking it in for repairs.
