The fact that the wight of the lock will keep the screw from vibrating out is an interesting observation, but I will offer the counterpoint that the lock also gives an impact point and leverage for stuff to bang into the shackle. If those impacts are biased (such as the shackle being mounted low on a vehicle) those impacts could be biased and unscrew the bolt faster than just vibration alone. Or, alternatively, they could tighten the bolt to the point that it fouls up the threads. Either outcome is less than optimal, probably best to just use wire, which does not have those problems. . .I understand that the lock weight will keep the pin from unscrewing on its own, but not keep someone else from removing the pin, clevis and lock.
