Its just my opinion, but I like a two piece. Badger Ordnance sells a great rail for Rem. 700's. They make a nice base for your rings that are solid as a rock.

Thanks..Leaning towards a 2 piece base. Thinking solid enough and a little lighter.

Does the gun have a specific purpose? I like the two piece bases on my hunting rifle as it makes it easier to load the magazine. A one piece base should make the action more rigid if that interests you. I went with a one piece as it offered more ability to adjust the scope placement on the rifle.

One piece mount and bed it or two piece mount and lap the rings: you don't want the optic taking up any variance in the receiver.

I just got a EGW 1 piece 0 moa Picatinny rail for my 700 SPS Tac that I just bought, haven't had a chance to take it out to the range yet, but it sat nice and flat on the receiver, didn't think that it needed bed, thought it might in the future.. who knows.

Went with GG&G 20 moa base...Burris XTR low Rings and a Vortex Viper PST 6 x 24 x 50 Scope with 65 MOA

65 MOA total elevation: so you have 32.5 MOA up and 32.5 MOA down.

@ 1000 yds a typical FGMM 175 is going to need about 38 MOA elevation so you might need to hold over depending on atmospherics unless you switch to a 20 MOA base.

edit: 38 MOA is with 100yd zero...
