Will not honor their own websites pricing on transfers
Usually do all my transfers there it lists online $30 including background check, but it is $30 + $10 for the background check when pointed out they say oh that needs changed then charge you the $40 anyways and never change it
1. Private person to person gun transfer.
- After background check was approved, I go to pickup the firearm....
I was given the firearm and decided to stick around and make an eAccount (fingerprints, etc) thru SilencerShop. Right before I leave, another rep. stops me and said, "oh it looks like your approval was a lil over 30 days ago...." He requested my gun back and made me pay a second time and wait for a second approval on the same gun!
2. The SilencerShop eAccount I made..... was for an SBR purchase. My first SBR/form 4. Coat of Arms helped me thru the whole process and told me I was done and they would submit it on their end. I didn't know better and didn't know I was supposed to get a confirmation email,etc..... I have the receipt for the transfer transaction, waited 12 months..... NOTHING. When I called in, because they didn't notify me, they apologized because it looked like Silencer Shop never got the credentials or whatever they needed from Coat of Arms..... They made an excuse about having employee issues during that period....blah blah blah.... Long story short, it took almost 2 yrs for my form 4 due to their negligence.
I did finally get the transfer done. After Coat of Arms had me making several calls to SilencerShop and ATF....For me to find out SilencerShop (explained the situation) but needed to hear from Coat of Arms.
Customer Service is abysmal and often non-existant
Prices are high
Credit Card Fees (can be a dealbreaker)
Consignment
Messy Store
I used to use CoA for a couple years. I'm about 3 years into owning and using firearms. Adam was my go to guy (the owner) for quite some time. He's knowledgeable and often explains things in a nice professional matter. They also carry some good stuff! And things I wouldn't normally see.
When Adam isn't there, it's an absolute nightmare.
I bought a CZ75BD and one of the guys (Scott) was there eating BBQ at the counter. He hands me the gun without wiping his hands. Gross. I ended up going back to buy said CZ because I had learned it was discontinued and I couldn't find one anywhere else. Another guy helped me and he proceeded to ask me why I would spend that amount of money not on a "gucci'd glock". I had to defend my reasoning on why I wanted a full size, all metal, hammer fired gun with a decocker. It was super annoying, because he kept trying to push a glock or a sig on me.
Their response time when sending an email or any other kind of message is non existent. Good luck. Just go in or call.
Also, if you have any consignments with them, it will take FOREVER to get paid for them. Their prices are also strangely higher than everyone else. They had a Sig P322 for $475 but I went to a different shop and ordered the same thing and they sold it to me for $399.
October 9th, 2020 = ATF Mailed the Stamp
July 3rd, 2021 = I picked up my Stamp and can.
I just now picked up my CAN from Coat of Arms. It is less than 24hrs since I confirmed it was actually there after I called them yesterday afternoon. Its been 268 days after the stamp was mailed from Portland OR to Coat of Arms in Salem OR.
I called 3 months ago and ask for any updates on it. I was told nothing was in yet, the person even called me back 15 min later to say "nope not in yet, I double checked".
A friend that also purchased a can from them via. Silencer shop got a call his was in 3 months ago. When he picked it up he said the employee there told them they "found a stack of stamps in a desk". This is why I called at that time.
This month crossed the 13 month time frame of the check being cashed by the ATF. I new somthing was not right. Yesterday I called and spoke with a person at Coat of Arms and he found and confirmed my stamp was there. I was told:
"We tried calling your number but its a business with no voicemail set up"
"Called on "1/16/21 and again on 6/3/21" This is also noted on the envelope of my stamp, both with notes of "NO VM Option" and "Business that does not have a VM stet up".
Few issues with this.
#1 in the dozen or so stamps I have purchased from Silencer shop every dealer has been able to contact me. (Rich's Gun shop, Curts Discount Shooter Supply, TJ Gun Sales) This is the only time I have used this shop.
#2 my business has 3 full time CSRs manning the phones, and we very much have voice mail set up. Staff may miss a call now and then but rest assured we have live metrics that track messages left and how long it takes to return that call. There is no voice mail issues.
I was told they have had some staffing issues and they are correcting the problem. I get that, but over 260 days is just not a simple "sorry about that". I purchased the can via SilencerShop website, this means Coat of Arms was charged a 2.8% commission for the sale out of their profit. However they still made decent profit on the sale. It would be reasonable for them to OWN their staffing issue and at a minimum offer a credit in their store for their error. Where as the staff was plesent when picking up my can there was no attempt to make any amends for their in house issue. As I shared, I already have plenty of cans its not my first so I have been shooting quite this whole time. If it was my one and only I would be lived.
I want to support LGS, why I through the business to them even with them being a 2hr round trip drive. But unfortunately this whole experience says DO NOT use Coat of Arms for your NFA transfers. I hope they have fixed their problems but 260 days and no attempt to issue a consolation says move on.
