Hi everybody, today I took an Arisaka Type 38 out to the range, and this gun is not matching but has very clean parts and a very nice bore. I was shooting Norma 6.5 Japanese, and was getting a decent group at 100 yards with no issues cycling the gun, except that the ammo felt a bit hotter than 6.5 Japanese typically does. At one point (after about a dozen rounds) I saw that a round I fired was way off target and when I extracted the case, there was a lot of gas in the action. I didn't feel any resistance opening the bolt and didn't feel any heat from the gas (thankfully!) but when I looked at the spent case I noticed that the primer looked like it had a bigger dent in it than the others, but it didn't seem completely pierced through and didn't back out of the case completely. (no pics of that, sorry :( ). I stopped shooting that rifle and when I took it apart later I didn't notice any damage to the bolt face, but I did notice that my firing pin tip seems a bit uneven. I'm attaching a photo of the bolt face and two photos of the firing pin that hopefully show how it looks uneven now. The light pitting you see on the bolt face was there when I got the gun. Any ideas? Do I need a new firing pin or spring or could the ammo be a bit too hot? Thanks for any advice!
