Google is your friendCordite still used in 1943? I've never seen it before. Somehow I thought it would be a, gray maybe, Cord like material.
I just checked a few minutes ago and yes indeed it's marked as 303 British.Is that .303 brit?
Yep the second picture and that Lynk nails it.@Knobgoblin nailed it. According to Wikipedia (if you believe it) has a photo showing .303 Brit manufactured in 1964 with Cordite filaments. Definitely an interesting find...

Ya cordite. It's what the Brits used. It's a trip right?What propellant is this. I recently got some surplus ammo for my cartridge display. Two of the cartridges which I am to believe are 1943 vintage cases had this spaghetti looking propellant in them with a paper plug.
I'm quite amazed since I've never seen it before.
