Someone in the 1800's thought this one up.
It fires upside down and holds a candle inside the lantern.
Shoots a 7mm projectile and is up for sale on Proxibid.

DSC06041.jpg That is quite the pistol. Hard to see from the angle of the pic, but I'm not sure if I see a vent hole in the barrel.
When I read the title of the thread I thought it be about the the black powder revolver vs. single shot pistol.

I have a different theory, It may have been used as a fuse lighter in a mining operation! I have seen others kind of like this! I have no idea if this is fact or not, but its sure a cool piece! I bet the Steam Punk crowd would wet there panties over that !

The vent hole could be rusted shut but I think this is a pretty good "Prop" or replica and not a real firearm! I collect old naval small arms, edged weapons and tools and this would be fun to copy and make into a real firearm!

I think Al nailed it;

It's cobbled junk and a fake, and not circa 1800. The lamp is a post 1881 Dietz
"bullseye" police lamp, that originally had a oil burner instead of the
candle. The light was made years after the flintlock and percussion era were over.
