My father was the wind tunnel engineer on the Northrup N9 Flying wing in the early 50's. He termed it a "very unusual" aircraft and one that had significant " handling quirks" in the wind tunnel, and felt its lack of vertical stabilizers would be an issue at some point in time. This was built in the time that all the aircraft and aerospace companies were in love with the Flying wing concept that Boeing took to a much larger level.

Actually the B-2 Spirit has always been a Northrop product ;) in fact, Northrop Grumman is the current manufacturer, not Boeing, who keeps trying to come up with the blended-wing body airliner designs that just has not become reality so far :rolleyes:
