Just a general shoutout to anyone in the Spokane area. My wife and I moved to Seattle from CO right before Covid but are now moving to Spokane at the end of the year to get back closer to the Rockies. Being away from them for a couple years made us realize that we are life long Rocky Mountain people. Hats off to those of you who love the rain forest but not our cup of tea lol. I know literally one other person in the state at this point due to our horrid timing but hoping to meet some people at whatever gun clubs etc Spokane has to offer.

Any have any recommendation of places in Spokane to meet other like minded people? I also do archery and fly fishing.

If you are looking to find like minded people I would move a couple more miles east where your freedoms are still respected. You can always pop over to Spokane for shopping/work if that is where your employment is. Northern Idaho is a beautiful place and reminds me of the Oregon of my childhood.

Sadly, in Spokane you will still be one of King Jay Inslee's subjects. Better to move over the border to free Idaho, where one man doesn't rule by decree.

I lived up there for 7 years. If you can afford it Liberty Lake is the place to live. If you have kids, best schools were Liberty Lake and West Valley. I was in West Valley and they had a lot of awesome programs for kids (even Elementary) that wanted to do more technical / science.

Coeur d'Alene in ID is super-nice but can be expensive. I have a bunch of buddies living on either side of the border which seems to be a great middleground in terms of cost of living and amenities.

One thing I loved about the area is how nice people are in general and how much it is growing in terms of things to do both in town and out. You're also VERY close to so many lakes, mountains and camping. We used to love to go to Silver Mountain for the weekend for the Snow and Water Park.

To answer your question, Sharp Shooting Indoor Range was where I used to go shooting...it is a VERY nice Store / Range with a lot of awesome people working there. Huge Selection.

Spokane Rifle Club was good too...I think they have multiple events and classes weekly.

I'll see you over there in two years (if they let my son out of high school 🤤)

Income tax would crush us. There's always Liberty Lake!

Yup- We would love to live over the border but we dont want to pay income taxes.

One thing that surprised me about the Spokane area is that it doesn't seem to have much public land around. Obviously, Colorado had a ton and so does west Washington. I'm hoping to use Spokane as a launch point for Idaho and Montana.

Not sure what type of shooting your into but you might try Sharp Shooting indoor range. I did Glock matches there before the VID hit and Grand Master Inslee made all of his decrees. Now I avoid Washington State as much as I can. Do not get me wrong a lot of good folks over there it's just I do not want to play the game.

I feel it would be a good start and to talk to folks and check out the bulletin board. Are you moving north south, east, or west Spokane or in Spokane Valley because if your close to the Idaho boarder Center Target Sports is another indoor range and would be another good place to talk to folks as they have a lot of folks from Spokane coming over to shoot matches.

There are also a few outdoor long range, ranges as well in both Spokane and Coeur d Alene.

After living in both states it depends on the value of the house and and toys you have that you have to pay taxes on weather or not the state tax is more or less. In reality I still find Idaho cheaper currently and I say curranty as a lot of folks have moved into the area driving up the home prices meaning taxes will go up. Time will tell.

I am very partial to the outdoor ranges...that Spokane Valley Rifle and Pistol Club looks right up my alley. Will probably join that one. Looks like there is a pretty impressive archery club with 3d targets as well.

I think we are going to try and rent a place in Spokane Valley. Where is this bulletin board?

Taxes - We dont currently own a home in Washington or Idaho so for right now its just the income.

Is having a boat in the north Idaho/ Spokane area worth it?

I don't know what your income tax bracket would be or what your spending habits are as it relates to sales tax but Idaho income tax is between 1.5% and 6% with sales tax at 6% for Idaho and an average of 9.23% for Washington though I would expect it to be higher in the Seattle area with local taxes (looks like 10.25% for Seattle). Property taxes are likely a wash from what I have seen being around 1%. So worst case, unless you don't spend money subject to sales tax you have a 3% difference in taxes impacting your income. I will gladly give up 3% of income if I am in the highest tax bracket for my freedom. If you aren't in the highest tax bracket for Idaho then you are close to taxes being a wash.

You have to do what's best for you and your family, I just know that when I go to the effort of finally moving out of Oregon it will be to a free state as all I am doing is changing the scenery if I don't leave the Oregon/Washington/California socialist state. You can also be certain that taxes will only be going up in Wash/Oregon/Cal to pay for all the new and additional spending on social programs.

Yea that makes sense...our current situation is that we dont know where we will end up long term so the idea is to maximize savings until we get it figured out. Unfortunately, my wife is a corporate slave so until we know what the long term commute/remote work thing looks like our lives feel up in the air.

Sorry the bulletin boards at the ranges where folks post events. sorry not on line.

Spokane and Coeur d Alene has about 100 lakes with in 100 miles including Pend Oreille lake that is very large and runs from Washington into Idaho so a boat is very usable if that is what your into and willing to drive an hour.

Another out door range to look at
Fernan Rod and gun

No better time in history to find your dream job or change careers. Wages/Signing bonuses/Demand are at an all time high. Employer's are setting aside minimum requirements and bringing new hires onboard that have the basic skill sets needed to be trained for the position.

There's lots more taxes than just income tax, check out what it costs to license a vehicle, Idaho versus Washington, sometimes your comparing Apple's to oranges. For fly fishing, check out the shoo fly, a fly fishing store in troy, Montana. It's a couple of hours north of Spokane, but they got the skinny on fishing in northwest Montana. Course once you come up to God's country you won't want to go back to spokecompton. A nice outdoor range is the shoshone county shooting range in Kellogg, Id. Well worth the drive.

It's going to be a tough choice in two years. Although it does appear ID is changing the tax code to benefit high earners.

If you're going to be renting then there is no real tax advantage at the moment but the true advantage is if you're looking to buy very many guns or certain types of guns as Idaho has none of the Washington BS and hoops to jump through. Well at least not yet but the way the world is changing so fast who knows what will happen.

if you're not looking to add to your Arsenal then that would not matter either.

Quite a few "starter " homes are under construction in Cheney right now. If you feel like rolling the dice on a flipper house, you might come up in a few years. The local elementary school looks fine from the outside, but my kids are there for college. So I have no idea what the local public schools actually rate.
That little college town has actually grown on me in a short amount of time.

Cheney is a nice town. It's just kinda flat, dry and rocky out there. Oh and windy.
