It's a lot faster to make piles and then bag the piles than to bag as you go.

Bagged & Tagged. Lane after cleaning. You can see our target out there in the middle.

Can't figure out how to easily upload the slo-mo movie of the Barrett. Sorry! I guess it has to be hosted on a third party site and I am not set up to do that.

Wow! Nice work!

50 cal at Lane 2? Holy cow! They must have been shooting into the hillside.

That drive through tour is today sometime, so your visit was key! Thanks!

Oops! Posted in the wrong thread. Meant to post in the Wolf Creek thread. I will repost there later.

The 50 cal was on the ground and the center of the target was less than 18" off the ground. It was very short range for such a giant round, but he was just zeroing. It went into the bottom half of the berm, not the hill. I will have to try to figure out how to upload the video, because it was a sight to behold.

I took this pic between the first and second shots. You can actually see the impact point from the first round in the berm behind the target in this pic.

I think most everyone has a free YouTube account. Maybe that's only if you have gmail or any other kind of Google account, I'm not sure how that works. But you could upload it to your page and then share the link of thevideo. .

Here's how we remove graffiti from boulders at shooting places on public lands. It's one aspect of what we'll do next week at the May 25th clean up at North Fork Wolf Creek Rd shooting lanes.

As for the graffiti on the concrete jersey barriers, we'll paint over those and add a design. Since the concrete barriers are not natural to the forest, we don't need to restore them to their original condition.

Great work, Bill !

Has anti-graffiti coating ever been considered for some of the problem, repeatedly tagged areas ?

Good idea if you can afford the $200/gallon price tag. I've used this before on commercial buildings and it works well.

Yes I have and used it (Miller Paint donated 10 gals), but new graffiti still sticks and you have to wash it off. The instructions say use hot water. I only have cold water in the woods. @Joe13 , is that right or can you use cold water?

Cold water should work but maybe not as fast. I would add a graffiti remover and let it sit for a couple min and between the two it should come off pretty quick.

Glad to see you are still at it Bill!!

Well then, I see we have a Graffiti Removal Volunteer for next weekend! Very cool! Thanks Joe! :D

Ha! Just kidding. Yep, still at it.

Tracy and I went for a road trip up to Shellburg Falls today. Area just opened recently since the fires. About 50%of the area survived. The rest didnt. All areas turning green again though. The shooting areas that we cleaned looked before the fires look same but we didnt go look because we had the car.
Stopped up Neal Creek on the way home. The 2 mile pit is covered in trash and shotgun shells. Kind of disgusting. The Weyerhauser pit up the road is covered in shotgun shells, brass and trash. We picked up 35 pounds of brass in 1 hour. Pretty amazing. This is an area that has No shooting stenciled on the rocks and is private property. Anyone want to help out on Sunday the 26th early morning to help clean it up?
Not sure what is going on with a percentage of the public lands target shooting but they are wrecking it for the rest of us. Will be interesting to see Wolf Creek. Kudos and a huge Thank You to all those who answered the call Bill gave and did such a great job there this week to help keep it ope.
Somewhat of a rant over.
Thanks.

I got the word about Shellburg Falls reopening from the 2020 fire, but STILL... The Butte Creek area remains closed! The shooting pit we improved, in 2020. is in that section and we still can't use it! It's been closed since the day we finished it in Oct 2020! That's the BC615 Pit on Butte Creek Mainline Rd. The Santiam ODF is claiming contractor delays due to winter/spring weather and now the reopening is estimated to be mid/end summer this year. This is the 3rd or 4th time they've moved it back.

I'm seeing the same thing with trashed target shooting places all over OR & WA. It's gotten worse. A lot worse! Apparently, there's been a shift in moral values and attitudes. It use to be "just a few who ruin it" (and places weren't too trashed), to now "most are ruining it"! There seems to be more people who have low moral values, no respect and simply don't care about the future of public land recreational shooting.

But I'm sure thankful for you and Tracy, and all those who chip in to help (whether it be at a group clean up or an individual Random Act of Clean Up)! 'Good example' people are out there! We just need more of them to get out and show how it should be done more often.

It's the same thing in the cities. The so-called leaders, refuse to enforce laws. All the while coming up with new laws for the law abiding to take their freedoms. That's the democraps for you. :(

Not sure how the Shellburg area compares to the 615 area but the areas we went through were almost all replanted and green. Trail Keepers of Oregon is doing an awesome job with the hiking trails.

615 area took about a season to go from devastation to mostly green again.
Some areas were still charred but it was coming back pretty fast.
We were shooting back there till they gated it off in 2020.
It's kinda past ridiculous that we still can't get back there and use the range.

Won't all these places be gated off come "Fire Season"? Which could well be in mid June?

Yep. Past ridiculous! 4 years is not acceptable. I suspect the contractor delaying here and there, more than ODF.

I think they only close gates in the extreme fire season conditions. When fire season starts, there's always the caution put out, but they don't usually close them at the beginning. But perhaps they'll be doing that more often, just because they can.

Happening this Saturday, May 25th!!!
