I need help with my Mini 14

I was swapping the stock on my pre 2007 mini 14 and at one point I dropped a screw. When searching for the screw, I came across this small piece of metal which couldn't have come from another source, at least not with carbon buildup. If someone could identify this piece and point me in the right direction as to how to put it back, that would be great. Thank you
For reference, it is about 1/4in long and 1/8in wide
