The Manhattan project, development of the demon core and all of that, which went into it has always been of interest to me. Wife & I was lucky enough to drop into the AMSE at Oak Ridge once, when we were passing thru.

I lived not far from the Hanford nuke works in the early 1960's. I remember bomb drills where we hid under the desks. Fat lot of good that would have done for our 4 room wooden school house! My grandad worked on the Hanford project during WW2. He said that security was pretty tight. I remember seeing Civil Defense bomb shelter signs in downtown Vancouver around 1963 or so.
