Huh. I never thought about a tripod for something less than a crew served weapon. But live and learn. For testing hand loads, I have one of those portable shooting benches, and I use a bipod. I have a Harris that works for some rifles, for others I have one of those cheap, GI sheet metal deals they made for the M16. I take a Made in Ukraine wooden folding chair to sit on. For the chrono, yes, I use a tripod. An old one designed for photography that I got from the Goodwill. I've had it for years, but if some day I drive off and forget it, no real loss.

Years ago, I gave up trying to do chrono work at the gun range where I'm a member. Setting up is hard to go right without rushing or holding up other members during a cease fire. I've got most of my pet loads down pat now, don't need to do much experimental work.
