They were used in Total Recall too, probably some other movies.

I've shot one (a pistol) in 9mm - just a few rounds. I can't speak to reliability because I have never owned one - but the general design seems unique and has potential if properly implemented. I quickly learned that when shooting a bottom eject firearm like this, have the cuffs on your long sleeved shirt buttoned; hot brass rolling down the inside of your sleeve is painful!
