"Inventor. Born in Ogden, Utah, he was renowned gunsmith making his first gun from scrap metal when he was thirteen. He patented his first weapon a breech-loading single-shot rifle in 1879 and began work on an automatic machine gun in the 1890s. He also produced the Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR) which fired a 20 round magazine. Over 52,000 of these guns were purchased by the US Army as a support weapon for the light machine-gun which were used during World War II, Korean War and in the Vietnam War. He died of heart failure in Liege, Belgium."
