Join the #1 community for gun owners of the Northwest
We believe the 2nd Amendment is best defended through grass-roots organization, education, and advocacy centered around individual gun owners. It is our mission to encourage, organize, and support these efforts throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming.
Good selection and inventory currently with some knowledgeable long time staff
Cons
Prices can be steep and some staff are less than helpful.
Have completed several firearm purchases and transfers through them over the years. Typically do business because they are conveniently located. I've had some good experiences but would never say any have been great.
Lots of the gun counter folks will stand around and BS rather than come to help or ask if you need assistance. I understand they get a lot of tire kickers and window shoppers but that's part of doing sales. Have started taking my business elsewhere locally because of better customer service but I hope they turn it around.
I'll still patronize them for ammo, shooting supplies, and waterfowl hunting gear as much as able rather than using online or big box stores.
Found Sporting Systems when looking to complete the now required firearm "training" requirement. Great outfit and easy to-follow FREE online course. They've also been a 2A advocate and past sponsor of an event I'm running on May 4th at the Granite Falls Sportsman's Club supporting Boy Scouts and shooting sports.
I visited Benchmark with a muzzlerloader barrel for a project I'd been working on. I needed the breech back-bored an additional 3/4". This is NOT their usual request. On the wracks I could see lots of actions with very high-end looking barrels mated to them. But he must have sensed my frustration and offered to put it on a lathe right there and then. I was out the door 5 minutes later for a nominal fee.
Thanks Benchmark!
Great selection of more obscure/hard to find weapons platforms and ammunition types. No fuddery or funny business, just a good group of folks with a great facility. Great assortment of high-quality accessories, too (no Timber Creek or Tapco garbage).
Can be a wait to get service when busy. Most of the time the are busy.
This is a great resource for any type of outdoor gear, sporting good at great prices.
Have nice ads that come out monthly and always looking forward to review.
My wife and I enjoy going there to practice and learn. She only feels comfortable there when we go shooting. They are very nice and well maintained lanes. We have taken some lessons there, the staff was very patient and good to learn from.
I just started a few months back starting my collection, and buy all my stuff from here. They have lead me right on every purchase, and now have Will custom building me a few. I can not wait to get them to the range.
Been here a couple times for person to person transfers. They're good for sellers, will hold on to the gun if the buyer is put into the queue. Price for the transfer is great at $25 or $30 (can't recall). The $3 charge to copy the sellers license is stupid but whatever. Pawn shop level of selection for random guns to gaze at, sadly at pawn shop pricing.
Shot a couple of competitions here and if I lived closer I'd totally become a member. The range is always clean, staffed by friendly people, and is well-maintained. There are ranges for just about everything and the range itself is just a short drive if you're coming from the Gresham/Troutdale area.
I've bought one rifle from these guys and had five transfers go through them. Transfers are $45 as of now.
Every experience has been positive. They call same day things get delivered. Staff are very knowledgeable.
Only down side is they are a little on the high side price wise. Bimart almost always beats them on price for ammo and guns. However, these guys are a small locally owned business and it makes sense that they can't always compete with big box stores price wise.
There selection is always great and I'm happy every time I leave. Glad to have them as a local resource.
I've been coming to Hummel Arms for years, Terry's my go-to guy for transfers and selling on consignment. I've never had something fail to sell for a decent price at his place, and he's always pleasant to interact with. There's also usually some eclectic gear and accessories for sale if that's your thing. The space is small so the stock is always limited, but it rotates frequently and sometimes you find a real deal there. Sadly, he'll be closing his doors in a few short months, as he's decided not to renew his FFL. I'm sad to see him go.
I normally don't go to pawnshop anymore besides FFL transfer thru Tigard Pawn. These people might fall short in some areas but what I see is they are trying to do their best in in tough times to help people that in need of quick cash. I have nothing against buying low and sell high because that is how business revolves. It is up to you if you want to pursue. Other than this, I see them very attentive and they will serve you in the best that can even at times they are short handed. I will definitely always go back here because I don't see any dishonesty at all. These people are highly recommended by Northwest Firearm and other Portland groups.
Today was my second transfer here and I couldn't be more impressed with the speed and professionalism of the process. They also have an outstanding selection of new/used items to browse. Will definitely use them again in the future.
Thes= Salem location worked with my dad in selling his firearms on consignment, they did a great job in making quick sales at the prices my dad wanted and providing documentation for the Estate. In the end they assisted me in purchasing the remainder of his estate and working with me on final accounting. I could not imagine working with a better crew in such a devastating time in my life. Thanks to their hard work and detailed paperwork my father's estate was settled with the remainder of the family without any issues.
