It's an old 1950's drama with Ray Milland, but nevertheless very startling and educational. The theme is that Los Angeles gets nuked, and all of the surviving surrounding communities flee for the hills while society breaks down---and what this means in actual practice for a family just slightly ahead of the curve. Yes, it's a corny old family drama from the Fifties, but it is VERY instructive....................elsullo :(

This one is by far my favorite. It may seem corny for today's standards, but when the SHTF and all 21st century lines of communication we are accustomed to go down (internet, cell phones, you name it), we'll be right back to how these people communicated on a day to day basis --- face to face or a very localized phone network, if it still works.

There is a UK series - a remake of the original - called Survivors

Check it out - great to see what would happen after an outbreak

Since it was the UK - not as prevalent on the guns, so you get a good idea
about how it would be with a limited amount of guns/ammo around

Here we go again, a thread hijack by a Right Wing absolutist and my kneejerk Leftie response.

The psychotic Cambodian Khmer Rouge was an insane abberation of history with virtually nothing to do with the rest of the world's leftists ......./QUOTE]

Its like this; this was a thread on survival.... The Killing Fields depicted a man's survival of and escape from a brutal regime. I don' think that was a thread jack.

As far as a shot at Ayers & co.; his group, the weather underground were murderers; given a chance I have no doubt they would have committed genocide. An aberration here and an aberration there adds up to 100 million dead before we even start counting the dead from right wing violence.

If this movie had no place in this thread, I apologize. If my shot at the far left was taken as a blanket statement for the entire left I apologize as well.
I won't apologize for my mistrust of the left or the right for that matter. I don't trust groups, induhviduals, maybe.

I won't be posting on threads like this in the future, I find it too easy to veer off the topic of firearms. FYI, I'm not upset, but I don't want to add to any drama either. I'll chime in if I have something technical or helpful to add to questions.

The psychotic Cambodian Khmer Rouge was an insane abberation of history with virtually nothing to do with the rest of the world's leftists except a theoretical homage to the Marxist concept of class-struggle. The Khmer Rouge was a perverted offshoot of Maoism, and their single theme was to kill anyone with a good education so that they could resume being an agrarian, decentralized society. They slaughtered over a million Cambodians to "purify" their culture. The REST of the world's "left" was horrified and outraged---even the Maoists in China were discredited and eventually ousted. Guess who finally stopped them and returned Cambodia to civilization? It was those evil Communists of Viet Nam who finally invaded Cambodia to squash the Khmer Rouge and give Cambodia back to its citizens. Then they pulled out.

To assert that America's leftists of any degree support the industrial slaughter of a Khmer Rouge style extermination "class war" is not only absurd, it is deliberately duplicitous and a betrayal of history.............................elsullo

UHHHH,,,Stalin ,,,Hitler,,,,Mao,,,Caaaaaastroooooo,,,JUGO Chavez Uhhhmmm? and those small time a-holes in eastern europe You never supported any of them?

I have to agree with "Trigger Effect." I actually got my wife to watch it and it ended up starting some good conversation.

Yesterday she wanted to get a scary movie from redbox and came home with "The Crazies." In turned out to be a fairly good preparedness/zombie primer for her as well.

NONE of them had any real connection to Marxist theory and idealism, only lip service. Hitler had NOTHING to do with Socialism other than government central planning. The "National Socialists" simply stole the popular name "Socialists" to confuse the voters.

Yes, at one time I did support Castro and Chavez, but neither of them included slaughter in their political platforms. I no longer support either of them, as they have let their egos overwhelm their ideals. At least I actually have studied politics and know what I am talking about........................elsullo
