As I'm sure most know, Clint Eastwood has enjoyed a long and productive career in films. His work has become part of our culture. His filmography may be viewed here.

Which character of his is your favorite? Why so?
Any you thought were underrated? Overrated?

Enjoy. :)

I sat here and thought about it a while and damn, its hard for me to pick out one. When I was kid I loved his westerns done in Italy. Later most of his Dirty Harry were also fun to watch. His stuff he did later in life was also very good watching so I really can't pick one.

May have to edit this couple times but trying to come up with 5
Pale Rider character
Original Dirty Harry
Gan Torino
Unforgiven
The Good the Bad and the Ugly
No doubt as others chime in here it will remind me of others I would have to put in the top 5. Guy has been an impressive actor.

In, roughly, order:

  1. Harry Callahan (Dirty Harry and four sequels)
  2. Walter Kowalski (Gran Torino)
  3. Josey Wales (The Outlaw Josey Wales)
  4. Man with No Name, aka Blondie (The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, and related)
  5. Kelly (Kelly's Heroes)
And there is a bunch more. Way too many to list.

So many memorable roles!

I have a soft spot for "Gran Torino" because I can identify with the character.

Dirty Harry. (first one)
Play Misty For Me (he played the befuddlement of the target very well)
Outlaw Josey Wales (some great lines, and setting up the other actors for their great lines)
Unforgiven (playing the fine line balancing ruthlessness and guilt)

While he cut his teeth in the spaghetti business, I wouldn't count them among his best efforts.
The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly is still one of favorite Eastwood roles

  1. Walter Kowalski (Gran Torino)
  2. Harry Callahan (Dirty Harry)
  3. Josey Wales (The Outlaw Josey Wales)
  4. William Munny (Unforgiven)
  5. Man with No Name (The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly)
  6. Gunnery Sergeant Tom Highway (Heartbreak Ridge)

The Outlaw Josey Wales...My hands down , mike drop choice.
Love both the book and movie.
The movie follows the novel fairly well....much closer than many other movie versions of books .
( Looking at you Peter Jackson  )

Hard for me to sort out favorite Clint Eastwood movie vs best acting performance vs favorite character. In terms of best acting performance I would give it to Gran Torino and unforgiven.

In terms of characters I would go with western drifter gunman 1st, marine sergeant type 2nd, Dirty Harry type 3rd, part of a team of camandos or spy type (or similar) 4th, everything else 5th.
