Is this a direct replacement or a free float that needs mods to the receiver?

This is a free float. Not much to put one on, there are some good instructions on ar15 dot com that will walk you through it.

Just like to clear something up, there is no "mod" that needs to be done to the receiver to fit this, just change out some parts.
