You must not get out much. I work with a LOT of people who vote for the people who hose them every two years. Everyone one of them get over the top angry when they get hosed and I say "you did vote for this." Without exception they blame people who had nothing to do with what was done to them. It really has become a mental disorder. :s0092:
It's always the fault of the Republicans who haven't held office in decades with those people.
They vote for politicians who are OK with homeless everywhere, drugs everywhere, defunding the police, and then maybe they complain about it a bit and go back to voting for the same people because they don't want to admit they were wrong and are just an NPC anyway.

YEP! My all time favorite is when local law makers and judges do something that makes them angry, and its the party who they vote for, they blame the POTUS. That one really gets me laughing. When you point out to them it was a local choice made by the people they vote for? They of course get angry. :s0140:

As to the original topic, another one announced today… maybe now that decades-old gay bars can't handle the crime and vandalism Portland voters might care. Probably not though. No doubt the proprietor(s), staff, and patrons voted for it.

This bar is in a part of potland that has been turned in a no car area. Granted, it's a crime problem brought on by potland's so-called "leaders". But get on street view and look around Crush. THERE'S NO F'-ING PARKING!! The place has turned their sidewalks into eating space and bicycle parking. Seriously, potland kills traffic flow and businesses with their war on cars and roads.

There are a lot of anti-car progressives getting into city governments and implementing their theories about "walkable urbanism" and how if you make driving places inconvenient and expensive, everyone will naturally switch to bikes and public transit. It's reminiscent of how the Romanian dictator Ceausescu had his wife (basically an illiterate seamstress or something) in charge of designing the subway system in Bucharest and she made decisions based on logic such as "we can't have the subway stop at this giant university because the students will get too fat, so they should walk more for the sake of public health."

If it works? Great. If it drives off business, and with them taxes? Again those who keep voting for it will get just what they asked for. Let them enjoy it. :s0092:

Unfortunately I had to go into the Capitol Hill area of Seattle recently, and I can confirm no one is giving up their cars despite the hostile engineering of the city leaders.

It just creates a parking and gridlock nightmare

When it comes to traffic, no place is worse than Seattle. I say that after living 15 years in the Bay Area. Seattle is the worst.

I worked for Seattle DOT for 15 years.

When someone says "this traffic is terrible, I can't imagine anywhere being as bad or worse" SDOT says "hold my kombucha"

The last time I spent any time in the Seattle area was the 1980's, and it was a stinking mess even then. I avoided anything west of I5 if possible, and even I5 through the city.

In the course of that decade, traffic became noticeably worse. I can't imagine trying to get around in that mess today!

In the ever brilliant ether of Seattle engineering, those morons built the convention center right above I-5, making any future I-5 improvements impossible, unless they demo the convention center. It's a literal hourglass shape.

When they began rebuilding the waterfront, imagine my surprise when they decided to NOT relocate the convention center to the waterfront. They could've used the end of I-90 as the access to the convention center, and had a great waterfront venue.

BTW: PSA to anyone thinking about driving through Seattle on the I-5, WSDOT will be doing long term closure of 3 lanes just south of the convention center. So, yeah, as our greatest VP ever said "don't come". Or, at least if you have to, try to plan driving through at off-traffic hours.

"Or, at least if you have to, try to plan driving through at off-traffic hours."

There is no such thing, in my experience. Even in Western Oregon, traffic flows 24/7 at a rate that causes congestion. The Seattle/Tacoma megapolis never sleeps!

Another irony is a lot of these anti-car measures are also said to be about safety, reducing road accidents through such things as "traffic calming." However, in Portland it seems they've had the exact opposite effect.

Another irony is that what with all the traffic barrels, roundabouts, concrete safety islands, bike lane spaghetti etc, one has to white knuckle it and concentrate on deciphering those hazards for fear of ripping their vehicle's undercarriage off at the cost of scanning for rogue boulevard zombies.
science!

That's Portland to a T. Idealogue electeds and radicalized bureaucrats who specialize in making things worse, not better.
Who are the absolute worst policy makers? Zealots. Just as Portlanders or Seattleites.

Whatever happened to teaching people to look both ways before crossing. That was a big thing way back in the 50s when I was growing up.

Also if a car / truck is within half a block, don't step off the damn sidewalk.

What's funny if there's ever a bike path built with some sort of unnecessary bend that forces cyclists to slow down to avoid crashing, they'll complain and insist only an idiot could have designed such a bike path… but with cars "it's a traffic calming measure and it's actually safer!"

All over the place in potland. A derelict house will be demo'd after sitting for a year or five. No they don't build a new house of small to medium floor plan. They will put 4-6 units in two stories with no off street parking. Which, of course, equals more cars parked on the street and more cars on the roads. the road where traffic has be purposely slowed to congestion. YAY!

People have been conditioned to not need to look both ways before crossing because they have "Right-of-Way" Duh.

I love ranting about this stuff. I keep hoping someone with a lick of common sense will be able to do something about the problem. There is something I've notice in the last year. Pedestrians don't seem to cross the street unless they can stop traffic. It's not uncommon to see a pedestrian come up to the road, well ahead of me. With plenty of time to cross with out me stopping, and no car coming the other way. They'll just stand there! I don't stop for anyone to cross if there's no one behind me or coming the other way. Peds will also not cross at light controlled crosswalks unless they can stop a vehicle. They may have a ton of time to get across, but nope! They need to see that car stop for THEM! And of course there are those peds that walk up to road and if you don't hit the brake immediately, you get the Bird and an "F-Y" shouted!

One thing that will almost always be easy to see with people like this. They exempt themselves from the rules they want to push on everyone else. They need an SUV, they need to fly around in a private jet, they need multiple homes, ect. They do this while people who vote for them are told to ride a bike and live in a shoe box. :s0092:

But it worked so well for San Francisco over the last 4 years. /sarcasm
