The US has had more over seas corperations open factories and import jobs here than we have exported. The middle class jobs are not blue collar anymore, knowing how to code will get you middle class wages. Staying stuck in the idea that a person in detroit should be getting paid 60k a year for putting on 200 front tires a day isnt adapting to reality. And everyone here should know adaptation is the key to survival.

But seriously, we cannot have the expectation that the world will conform to people's talents that's not how it works for anything. If we did that we would still be using 1930s tech. We are not creating new wealth in this country. If we did, there would be jobs for those people. Our economy would also be in much better shape.

If you mine iron ore, then someone trucks it to the steel mill, then people process it into steel, then others combine it with other metals for alloys, you have new wealth and you created a lot of jobs. Now someone takes that steel and makes parts for a new dishwasher. That's more new wealth. Those and many others are the jobs those people could do if we didn't have regulations and taxes to stop it. Timber is a renewable resource. The process of logging it, hauling it, milling it, hauling it again to lumber yards... all new wealth and jobs but no, we are buying our lumber from Canada.

I suspect that people who made buggy whips could have learned upholstery. Zeppelins? That's all fabrication skill that would easily transfer to other manufacturing. Vacuum tubes? Those people were taught on the job and could easily make something on another assembly line. Not everyone is cut out to be a high tech engineer.

You just don't get it. You don't know where new wealth comes from, and why we aren't developing it. Socialists believe that wealth is fixed and must be divided "fairly." Capitalists believe you can create new wealth.

And by the way, before you come across as a genius, learn to spell vacuum and zeppelin. I can't use people in my business who can't spell, which includes most young people. That probably includes most of these new protesters. I'd like to give them a spelling test.

I agree with you wealth creation vs redistribution, I just think that the money maker has moved into development and away from manufacturing. You see it in apple, Microsoft, google, yahoo, etc... The world is topping 7 billion, between that and advancing automation I don't see a lot of middle class wage potential in production, labor has just gotten to cheap around the world.

Personally I don't think it's good to offload all of our skilled labor but it's how a free market works, and I am all about that.

JJ, as Selco said, right when "they" are telling you everything is going to be OK but you sense something is wrong, then you just have to know for yourself.

If there is a war in the ME which causes us to lose our oil imports, all will go down. We can't do anything without oil. We can't manufacture, transport, get to work, heat many places...

Europe could easily crash before we do, taking us down with them for sure. They are super, super fragile with no real hope in sight.

Thanks. The problem is that a disproportional portion of Americans, who should make themselves aware of the #1 problem confronting freedom in this century so far, are not staying current. I wish all Americans would ask themselves this simple question, what or who is the greatest internal or external enemy of freedom in our time? The answer used to be the Soviet Union, and I contend that it still is a huge threat. But the #1 active enemy of our freedoms is islam. Islam (Capitalized because it is the start of the sentence, not because of respect) is a growing enemy of all our freedoms, they are smart, and they have nuclear weapons. I urge people who haven't seen it to step into reality by going to Islam: Making a True Difference in the World - One Body at a Time and learn about the effects of islam. They hate us and have proven it over and over and are murdering people for a raft of reasons every day by the dozens and too often by the thousands.
