I am contemplating a trade for a Wingmaster but I want one that will safely handle steel shot. Does anybody on this forum know in what year Remington started production of Wingmaster's made for steel shot?

I thank everyone in advance for their answers.

So 1991 was the year that lead shot was banned somewhere. Doesn't matter where.
After that and probably a few years before would have been made to shoot steel.
Steel shot has been around for a lot of years.I was shooting it in the 80's

So if your SN (check with the Remington website) says you gun was made after 1991 it would most likely be made for steel shot.Probably way before that.

The Remington site will give you your specific answer

Remington says that all of their barrels made after 1950 are steel safe. They go on to say that early fixed choke barrels should be choked modified or more open choked. Shooting steel through a full choked barrel usually gives very poor patterns.

Yeah I would think that you could have your barrel opened up to modified from full to accommodate steel anyway.

#* please don't do this with an old collector's piece*#

I've been told that was about the only change on the steel guns. The full choke is really just modified choke now
