Request from OFF to support the Yamhill County SASO:
Right now however, I'd like to ask you to help our friends in Yamhill County where tomorrow they will be considering a Second Amendment Sanctuary Ordinance to protect not only residents of Yamhill, but anyone who visits there.

Would you please send a short note of support for the Yamhill County SASO to the Yamhill County Board of Commissioners?

You can email them directly here, [email protected] or use the FREEROOTS tool we have created to send a pre-written message.
One by one we hope to see the counties stand up to the tyranny coming from Salem and your brief note can help.
It would be good to get one more green puzzle piece:

What good does a county law against 2A infringement do when the OSP or ATF comes around to confiscate your guns and/or you wind up in state or federal court?
May very well not do any good, depends on the terms of the SASO. IIRC some SASOs go as far as stipulating that these OSP or ATF officers will be arrested.
At the very least a SASO is a form of protest, just one small part of the fight to defend the RKBA that doesn't cost much. Imagine you're an OR state legislator looking at the OR county map almost full of green puzzle pieces telling you we're not going to enforce your unconstitutional gun laws. That's going to be somewhat demoralizing, no?

Still a waste of time and effort and false hope.

Good luck with arresting OSP or ATF

@The Heretic ; last I recall, there's only 490something OSP Troopers. Sure theres a lot of OSP detectives/clerks/ desk jockeys but... one has to consider that numerically, the County Sheriffs/deputies outnumber the OSP Troopers. Of course, it might still be a moot point if Govnur gets ATF and FBI goons involved

Also something to think...
Technically the OSP has jurisdiction of State Property and State roads, however they do also have the job of enforcing State Laws... and usually they request Sheriff help for making State arrests, as the Sheriff has jurisdiction on all private property in their counties. This is the biggest reason we see both OSP troopers and County Sheriffs whenever there's a big arrest, bust, or events.. along with the City police in some cities.

It would only take a one or two OSP troopers along with an ATF or FBI guy coming to knock on someone's door in order to take their guns.

No way would the gov send out LEOs in a mass conscription effort. They would make an example of maybe 1% of gun owners and the rest would fall in line.

My point was that "sanctuary" legislation is a feel good thing and worse, it gives some people a false sense of security.

Also, it has been shown that some LEOs who know they were prohibited by law to notify ICE regarding illegal immigrants, did so anyway. I am not saying this was good or bad (with regards to immigration policy), I am saying that some LEOs have been known to ignore policy/law - so I would not count of deputies protecting gun owners - at best they will just passively ignore violations of federal state laws infringing on the Second Amendment. They will be just as passive when OSP/ATF/FBI come knocking on your door.

All it takes is ONE Sheriff with balls to arrest an OSP or ATF agent and things would end right quick and in a hurry like, and the Sheriff does have to power and authority to do so in his county! The trick to these sanctuarys is to get the Sheriff on board, and secure his commitment to upholding the principles of it!
As was pointed out above, with a strong presence of counties telling the state and feds to go pound sand, that sends a pretty powerful message, and should give pause toward trying to enforce anything at any level!
More then half a states population is not a small number, and if the status covers most of a state, that's and even bigger threat to anti 2nd activities!

Federal agencies rely on state and county resources. 2A Sanctuaries deny use of those local resources to enforce federal laws, leaving the federal agencies relatively weak and unable to perform general enforcement. The exceptions are in very specific instances where they can justify sending a bunch of resources for one bust, like dealing without a license or selling SBRs and Supressors without paying them their taxes. Situations like Waco or Ruby Ridge can still happen but you significantly decrease those little 1-on-1 or 2-on-1 instances. Remember, you still need the cooperation of the police to have a police state.

The only thorn in the 2A sanctuary county thing is the fact that the State Police in Oregon is beholden to the State govt/agencies, as we have seen with the Malheur thing.. but its of note that at the ending of the Malheur thing, OSP and FBI disregarded/lied to/didn't cooperate with the County Sheriff in that county, since Mr. Finicum and friends were headed to meet the Sheriff, but got ambushed on a Deadman's curve, and a shoot happened with the OSP being the ones to kill him.

They (OSP/FBI/maybe ATF) could have just stormed the buildings and taken care of the whole group, but they didn't. They waited for an opportunity to separate people and ambushed them basically.

And then the list of exceptions at Sec. 4, 6, d states: "This ordinance does not prohibit individuals in Yamhill County from voluntarily participating in assisting in permitting, licensing, registration or other processing of applications for concealed carry permits, or other firearm, firearm accessory, or ammunition licensing or registration processes that may be required by law in other legal jurisdictions outside Yamhill County or by any other municipality inside Yamhill County."

[Edit] Looks like there are later amendments to the provision. Whomever is making the changes is doing a very sloppy job of it.

Do not underestimate the willingness of the federal & state government to engage in actions where the intention is to eventually disarm the populace, or at least some of them.

I for one do not wish to be one of the targeted gun owners, even if I am one very few that has to answer my door when they knock on it.

Therefore, I put almost no hope in such efforts.

Send a message?

Sure - it sends a message. But do you think that they care?

Gun owners are a minority. Gun owners who are strong advocates of the Second Amendment are an even smaller minority.

If you think county level officials of any sort are going to come to your defense when the OSP/ATF/FBI knocks on your door, you are in for a big disappointment.
