That's true. Also reminds me of walking through a wrecking yard in the early 70s. I'd see a car and think/dream what I could do with it. All I needed was a few parts, which usually could be found within the next few rows.

This package just yearns for an appropriate lower.

I don't know. If the barrel is not correct. That's a big hurdle.

I passed up a very nice 1918 made 1911 two year ago for $1000.
Only thing wrong was it had an aftermarket barrel.

A correct 1918 H P marked barrel goes for about $500 depending on condition.
And good luck finding one.

But I still have an eye open. ;)
 
Bummer. I've seen pics of ground off serial numbers the FBI restored using some type of x-rays deep down in the metal, but getting the ATF to let you re-stamp the frame would be problematic at best.

Hey Medic, where would the marking be? I am almost positive that this is the original barrel.
 
Stamped on the top side of the barrel.
