I love Idaho.
Both sides of my family settled this state
If someone can live anywhere, with jobs and such, let me share some thoughts on a few areas.
Wyoming. Somewhere near Cody or Sheridan. Or star valley
Idaho. Grace-soda springs area. Swan valley. Not sun valley! Cascade is sweet.
Montana. NW area. Cheap! Ovando. Grizzly bear central. South of Livingston.
Kansas is ok. Around Manhattan.
Oregon. If you can handle small sagebrush town, Crane will most likely shoot first ask questions later.

We considered Montana, but too far from our kids and grand kids. We sold our place south of Forest Grove in August and relocated to Central Oregon. Still Oregon, but way different attitudes.

At my age, the politics will probably outlive me and I get to spend my semi retirement years in a quieter, more sane place with people with similar values. Fishing, hunting, horses, shooting sports will keep me busy. I can tell you living over here now, I look at the valley metro areas insanity and do not even feel part of that f up state.

If I moved to another state again, I'd go to those states in the Mideast you here absolutely nothing about except maybe for their football or nascar.

Never hear anything about Iowa, or Tennessee, or Kansas.

The west is doomed to become a hellhole mecca like the east coast, we are living through its great expansion. The states already established yet with hard principles are the states I'd consider. Not the underdeveloped states in the west with future principles unknown.

I would strongly suggest spending plenty time in Oklahoma before moving there, because I'm here to tell you that place sucks, unless of course you are into tornadoes, triple digit temperatures with over 90% humidity, bugs and snakes the will f' your world up, massive poverty and bunch of ignorant fool meth heads. Other than that it's great.
I mention Oklahoma because they have Idaho-ish gun laws and constitutional carry. The state is also very conservative as a whole. I haven't spent a lot of time there but have a good friend and also a sister in law who live there and they like it. Tornadoes are a consideration but most dwellings are equipped for it and it's not like they happen all the time. No worse than hurricanes in Florida or earthquakes in California.

I would consider leaving Oregon, but I moved here to escape Kalifornia in the first place.
I live in Jefferson and it's a pretty good place to be, so here I'll stay and Salem be damned.

We were very hot on Nevada for a while, due to the climate, the freedom, the very low taxes, the good land prices, and entertainment available. However, the new governor is advocating sweeping new gun control in the Silver State, along with making noises about hiking up taxes. So, our game plan is a relocation to Arizona within the next couple years.

Good luck. :)

Good news, Arizona needs more gun lovers

Yah, moved from Massachusetts to Oregon (again), because Oregon is an outstanding place to live. Politics set aside.

Moved from Salem to South of you all @GOG , and life is even better down here. Again tho, setting politics aside.

We'll fight at the ballot box as long as we can hold out!

South Dakota.

Conservative politics

Low taxes

Close to ideal gun laws unlikely to change for the worse.

Good hunting.

I plan to have land here in Orygun, but have S. Dakota be my official state of residence - at least for a while.

My former neighborhood FFL told me had escaped from Central California a few years back. Set up here in Oregon (knowingly avoiding the leftist cesspool of Portland) and got his kids into a private school. He thought he'd be okay here, but he told me last year, "We didn't move far enough." The family pulled up stakes again and went on to Idaho a couple months ago. Not necessarily easy for the kids. I hope they're resilient.

Many of us here have the resources to roll like tumbleweeds. But then where will the grandkids and extended family be? Depending on one's circumstances, it can become complicated even for empty nesters.

I don't remember seeing Kentucky, sorry if I just missed it.

Why? Because Knob Creek machine gun shoot, and Kentucky ballistics makes it look so nice with his full auto Fridays.

Tennessee was mentioned, another plus there is you could take classes from valor ridge.

Montana or Idaho for me and the wife in the next 10 years or so. Oregon is simply pricing us out of a decent retirement, not to mention the political toilet it is becoming.......

the world is full of kings and queens who blind your eyes and steal your dreams. It's Heaven and Hell.....

Thankfully, no kids for us. A couple of cats, though. Not close with my side of the family. Her family is in Utah and Wyoming, hence the consideration.

The upper midwest has cold that is hard to comprehend unless you experience it. Family there last year said 30 below before wind chill. -50F with wind. Great people.Snow to the horizon. Land is flat- No hills. After harvest, there are no trees/plants anywhere (Save the occasional wind break of trees). Great place to live if you own a farm or can make a good living. Past that, not so much. Mostly wonderful people in my experience. A few lowlifes who think welfare owes em something.

I'd like to go to LA. Wife aint interested- too many creepy crawlies there. Our families will move or pass on in the next few years. A lot of family is ending up in Florida. Both the midwest folks and the Oregon folks.

Habit keeps me here as much as anything. Starting a new business all over again is a lot of work. Might just ride out the silliness here until quitting time

In 2009 the Wife and I packed up every thing and moved to Colorado, which at the time was a really good move, not so much now!:eek::eek:
Still, up at the ranch, it's very conservative and the city politics are not going to effect us any time soon! Granted it's mostly Ranchers and retired Mil, but that has serious advantages! While the cities will burn, the rest of us will be just fine! We don't have to travel to the cities ( About an hour and a Half each way,) as most needs can be met locally, so that has it's advantages as well! Winters can be BRUTAL, and the altitude prevents many of the Flat Landers from venturing up from the Front Range anyway, so we should be safe ( Mostly) from the infection that is taking over the urban areas! Was it a good move, Yes, though it shows the truth in that even a VERY freedom loving state can and will fall to the Leftists once that takes hold as it did in Boulder!

Kalifornicating hippies invaded Colorado back in the 60's, that's what started ALL this leftist socialist liberalism on the Left half of America....

That's where we're at, granddaughter is in unincorporated Pierce county, we're west of Oly which is an hour 15 minutes with no traffic and hours with it at JBLM...
If I could get the SIL to leave $50+ per hour plumbing career in Shetattle to western Idaho I'd sell & have no regrets!!!

Iowa... floods?
Tennessee... McConell
Kansas... twisters, snakes. Humidity?

Problem is today's families are decentralized. In NC there were generations living in the same home over the years. Here we have mobility. Grown kids move, grandkids are only around when they are little. I have friends that chased their grandkids all over the country... wound up miserable!!

We are also considering Missouri,

It's called Mis-er-y for a reason!!

L.A., or Lousiana?
Florida...... Uh, oh, I'm gonna get in trouble again! My folks lived near Tampa. It used to be a nice place but most of Florida is crammed full with retirees from New York, New Jersey, Chicago... no offense meant but I encountered a lot of aggression from them. Maybe go to South Florida, it's a whole different scene from the mobs/masses in the rest of the state.
